Easter Fun in Tower Hamlets Parks

Join our parks teams for some eggs-citing fun this Easter!  We’ve got free family activities throughout the school holidays in parks across the borough. Join us for donkey rides, adventure play, cooking sessions, boating on Victoria Park Lake, Easter and Eid themed arts and crafts sessions, bunny hopping and of course an Easter Egg Hunt!  All activities are free but some need booking in advance.


Edgelands - Prism Textiles

Edgelands - Prism Textiles

Prism, the renowned international group of textile artists, return to The Art Pavilion in Mile End Park with their latest exhibition 'Edgelands' from 19 - 29 April. With more than 50 artists exhibiting, the work on show covers themes from politics to fairytales, and wastelands to the human brain. Alongside the fabric and thread, you will find unconventional objects like discarded car tyres and golf balls combined with materials like concrete and ceramics, skillfully woven together to create contemporary textile art.

There is a full programme of free art workshops throughout the exhibition. All welcome and no booking required.

A new photography exhibition at The Brady Arts Centre. Larry Herman was an award winning photo journalist who lived locally in Selby Street.

His daughter, film maker, Melissa Rees Herman has a collection of photographs, which is part of an unfinished project in Bangladesh, with female garment workers in Dhaka. Herman documented the movement to improve appalling working conditions. This exhibition also includes other photographs from his collection.

Melissa will be showing some of her short films; one is about her father Larry, as part of the exhibition.

The ECO Wedding Show is back at The Ecology Pavilion, Mile End on 14 April with useful and thought-provoking talks, workshops and of course awesome suppliers.

Plus new for 2024 - The After Show! This is an hour’s networking, learning and fizz from 2-3 after the show for all the suppliers involved.

Art4U2 Summer Term Art Classes

Art4U2 Summer term art classes

Come along to weekly art classes at The Brady Arts Centre to develop your skills and learn how to use a variety of media. For the first half of the Summer term students will explore interior design. This will be divided into research and collage, mood boards, colour theory using watercolour and drawing a room with watercolour.

After half term the focus will be on painting flowers! This short course will cover collage, acrylics, oils and oil pastel with a new media each week.


What Have We Become?

What Have We Become? New exhibition at Tower Hamlets Local History Library & Archives

A new exhibition at Tower Hamlets Local History Library & Archives showcases the work of five visual artists, exploring the impact of local and colonial archives on personal and collective identity.

Curated by ceramicist Basil Olton, the group exhibition includes new painting and drawing, photography, collage and sculpture, responding to Stuart Hall’s idea of cultural identity being formed from “points of deep significant difference”.

Participating artists include Rudy Loewe, Holly Graham, Diensen Pamben, Kelly Wu and Basil Olton.

There is an events programme of artist’s talks, clay ceramics workshops for adults and children, and a creative workshop at THLHLA using archival inspiration.  The exhibition is now open and continues to 1 June.


Celebrate Eid and Bengali New Year at Rich Mix

MELA MELA MELA! BHORTA O BAJNA

Head down to Rich Mix on Sunday 14 April to celebrate Eid and Bengali New Year with a riot of colourful (and noisy) craft, scrumptious food, and festive feels.

This is a family-friendly celebration of cuisine, culture and community by OITIJ-JO Collective, Bok Bok Books and BSK (Bishwo Shahitto Kendro).  Activities include mask and musical instrument making, Bhorta-making and tasting, poetry and song and henna. There will also be culinary sensory activities, a dress-up area, a Bhorta scavenger hunt, Alpona design and a Chai station.  This is a free event but booking is required.


Free fashion fun this Easter at Museum of London Docklands

Easter events at Museum of London Docklands

This Easter break, sashay on down to the docks for free, fashion-themed family activities inspired by their Fashion City exhibition.

From storytelling sessions, to sewing workshops, object handling and self-led activities there is lots to choose from. Events are free and most are 'drop in', so no booking required.


St George's Day Tea Dance

St George's Day Tea Dance

Over 50s residents are invited to an afternoon of live music and song from The Sunshine Kings, with dance leader Tony Lane. Light refreshments will be served.​ The tea dance takes place on Wednesday 1 May, 2​ – 4.30pm​ at The Art Pavilion, Clinton Rd. Booking is essential and opens on Wednesday 17 April.

This event is for Tower Hamlets residents only.
