Read the latest edition of the borough’s Families Matter magazine, with information on local and national services to support families.

This term’s edition features local parents sharing the impact of their volunteering journey, plus information on parenting programmes and other workshops being delivered to support parents and families across the borough.

The childcare and play section also has information on the government’s expansion of childcare hours for eligible working parents.

Family fun for the half term holiday

Family fun for the half term holiday

Get Your Skates On and head down to Victoria Park on Tuesday 13 February, 11am – 3pm.

Join the Parks and Open Spaces Team for a winter celebration with free activities including ice skating (synthetic ice rink), climbing, inflatables, football, face-painting and more.

There are free family activities taking place throughout the half term holiday in Mile End Park, Whitehorse Adventure Playground and Victoria Park. There are adventure play sessions, pizza making, bird box making, arts and crafts and much more. 

No booking is required but places are limited.

The Family Information Service have also pulled together useful resources, including advice, support, information and activities for children, young people, and families for this half term holiday.

Platform to Talk session:  supporting children’s mental health

Platform to Talk session: supporting children’s mental health

The Parental Engagement Team are holding a special Platform to Talk session to coincide with Children’s Mental Health Week (Monday 5 to Sunday 11 February).

The supporting children’s mental health session will explore ways parents can talk to their child about mental health and support their child’s emotional wellbeing.

Tuesday 6 February, 10am-11am

Delivered online through Zoom

Act now to vaccinate your child against measles

Measles cases are on the rise across England and there are currently outbreaks in parts of the West Midlands and northwest London. Tower Hamlets is not currently experiencing a measles outbreak, however there were several cases in the borough last year, and it’s possible an outbreak could occur in the future.   

To protect against measles your child needs two doses of the free MMR vaccination. You can ask your GP practice to find out if your child is fully vaccinated, or to arrange to get the vaccine.

You can also get the vaccine at a local catch-up clinic, details of which can be found by clicking the link below.

Tower Hamlets Local Offer Focus Group

Join the Family Information Service for a focus group discussion on the Local Offer website on:

The Local Offer is a website that provides information and advice to children, young people, and families from birth to 25 years old.  

The aim of the focus group is to gather opinions and thoughts on the content, topics and information listed, including how user friendly the website is.  The Family Information Service will use this feedback to explore how the website can be improved and developed.
