Each month we share information, advice and opportunities for you to join our networks, support groups or parenting sessions.

Information on Family Information Service opening hours over Christmas

Family Information Service – Christmas opening hours

The Family Information Service operates a telephone and email helpline from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm on 020 7364 6495. 

The telephone lines will be closed on Friday 22 December and will reopen at 9am on Tuesday 2 January 2024.

Over the festive break, head over to the Local Offer website and explore all that’s on offer over the Christmas holiday period including family activities, events, music, dance and much more. 

There is also information for families who may need help with childcare and signposting to services that provide support with the cost of living.

Holiday Activities and Food Winter image

Christmas holiday activities and food (HAF) programme

The borough's Christmas holiday activities and food (HAF) programme will run from Wednesday 27 December 2023 to Friday 5 January 2024.

Thousands of Tower Hamlets children aged four to 16 years, who are eligible for and claiming benefits-related free school meals can now sign up for free activity clubs with healthy meals over the school holidays.

Parents and carers of eligible children will have received a HAF letter in the post, with details on the upcoming programme and how to book a place.

Stay warm this winter

Idea Stores and some community centres are hosting warm hubs this winter. Pop down to a warm hub near you for a cosy space to meet neighbours over a hot drink.

Data Chip

Struggling with mobile data?

If you are struggling with your mobile data, you can drop into the Whitechapel and Chrisp Street Idea Stores.

They have signed up to the Good Things Foundation’s National Databank which provides free mobile data, texts and calls to people in need through their network of digital inclusion hubs.

New Parent

Are you a new parent?

Triple P for Baby is an eight-week programme for expecting parents or parents with a baby under 12 months.

The programme will help you adjust to life with your new baby, build a close relationship with them and support their development. Creche available.

Applying for a nursery or reception school place for September 2024?

To support families with the nursery and reception school application process, the Transition Support Service in partnership with the School Admissions Service are offering free online advice sessions.

For children born between 1 September 2019 and 31 August 2020

We want your views on the nursery, primary and secondary school admissions arrangements for the 2025-26 school year, to make sure the process is fair and that as many parents as possible gain a place for their child at one of their preferred schools.
