Business Cost Reduction Project: 14th December 2023
Are you a business in Whitechapel? Do you need help reducing your business costs? Tower Hamlets Council has appointed business savings and support experts Place Support Partnership (PSP) to help! PSP will be visiting businesses in the town centre on 14th December to help start their savings journey. Find out more by calling PSP on 07542318410 or email highstreets@towerhamlets.gov.uk for more information.
Council launches £800,000 annual fund for local voluntary and community groups
The council has this week opened a new Mayor’s Small Grants Programme, to provide £800,000 a year in funding to support the work of small voluntary and community sector (VCS) organisations.
The new scheme was launched at a special meeting held at Whitechapel Town Hall featuring 170 people representing many of the borough’s community groups and organisations.
The programme is designed to support local organisations with a maximum annual income of £150,000. It will run each year until March 2027 to ensure that a wide range of smaller local organisations and sections of the community are able to benefit. The first round of funding is now open for applications and will close on Friday 2nd February 2024.
Tower Hamlets Donation Drive
Calling all Tower Hamlets Businesses!
Tower Hamlets Council is running a festive donation drive in order to give low income families in Tower Hamlets a boost over the Christmas period. Food items will be passed on to foodbanks and we will be providing more luxury festive items to give families a little something special after what has been for many a difficult year. We want more luxury food items which would not ordinarily be found in Foodbanks and would offer a special treat for residents, for example mince pies, chocolates, biscuits and yule log. We are also collecting toys for families with young children which can be distributed by our children and family centres. If your business is able to assist or contribute with donations, or has excess stock which may be suitable, then any contributions would be much appreciated. To do so, please contact duncan.jones@towerhamlets.gov.uk.
Boosting Life Sciences Social Economy - London Health Accelerator for Social Enterprises
Event organiser: The School for Social Entrepreneurs
The School for Social Entrepreneurs and MedCity have launched an exciting new accelerator for social business leaders working to reduce health inequalities across seven London boroughs (Camden, Hackney, Hammersmith and Fulham, Islington, Lambeth, Southwark, Tower Hamlets).
The London Health Accelerator for Social Enterprise will equip participants with the necessary skills, mentorship, knowledge and connections to grow and scale their social enterprise while tackling health inequities in underserved communities. Participants will also have the opportunity to apply for a £5,000 grant.
The programme is accessible to senior leaders within an organisation. It doesn’t have to be the founder / CEO so offers an outstanding development opportunity to rising stars and emerging leaders within community health organisations.
Deadline for applications: Monday 18th December, 1pm.
Time to nominate our Civic heroes
The Tower Hamlets Civic Awards are the borough’s opportunity to say a very special thank you to the local unsung heroes and heroines who live, work or study in the borough. Our Civic Awards 2024 nominations are now open to honour those who dedicate their time and efforts to improve the lives of local people. There are a number of award categories including one for those who have achieved in business within the borough.
Nominations close on Sunday 21st January 2024 and the winners will be chosen by a cross party panel, chaired by the Speaker of the Council, and include representatives from the community.
The photo shows our 2023 winners pictured with the council’s previous Speaker. Please share the details of the awards with your contacts and encourage them to consider making a nomination.
