Waste service staff to strike
A number of Tower Hamlets Council frontline waste service workers and street cleansers will be going on strike from 18 September to 1 October due to a national pay dispute.
Despite the council working to maintain services for residents, the strike will impact collections and cleansing across the borough. We apologise in advance for the disruption this will cause.
You can help play an essential role in helping us maintain a clean and efficient waste collection service by reducing the amount of waste you generate – please consider reusing or donating unwanted usable items – and continuing to recycle responsibly.
Call for action on e-bike safety
We have called on the Government to do more to tackle the increasing number of fires caused by e-bikes and e-scooters.
In a letter to Home Secretary Suella Braverman, we said that the growing popularity of e-bikes and e-scooters has resulted in a ‘dramatic rise’ in fires caused by their batteries and we called for more to be done to protect residents.
Do you know our next Young Mayor?
Applications are open for young people in the borough to apply to become the next Young Mayor or part of the deputy team.
If you are a young person or know of a young person in the borough who would like the chance to make a difference, please submit an application before 1 October.
New baby feeding room opens at our Town Hall
We've opened a private expressing room for the public in time for National Breastfeeding Week, which runs from 18-24 September. Located in our resident’s hub, the room includes a comfy feeing chair, lots of space for a buggy, and changing facilities as well as information on local support and activities for families.
Whether you’re visiting the Town Hall, shopping in Whitechapel or visiting the Royal London, our baby feeding room is a safe and quiet place to feed and change your baby.
If you need any support on your feeding journey, the Tower Hamlets Baby Feeding and Wellbeing Team can help. Contact them on 0796 1609 626 or via email.
