Asthma and Wheeze Newsletter for World Asthma Day- NHS Barts Health
World Asthma Day was on 2nd May this year. An Asthma and Wheeze newsletter has been produced by NHS Barts Health for World Asthma Day. Aimed at school staff and parents it addresses common asthma triggers including improving the air quality in the home, the impact of smoking, hay fever and pollution on asthma symptoms. The interactive newsletter includes links to additional support and signposting, which includes the LBTH Clean Air Hub, Asthma and Lung UK and Tower Hamlets Environmental Health and Housing.
Helping your Child with Asthma Stay Active – Asthma and Lung UK
Asthma and Lung UK have compiled a guide for parents on the benefits of physical activity for your child with Asthma, so that they can say ‘yes’ to PE, holiday clubs and playing with friends.
The article explains that exercise is good for a child with asthma because it:
- can maintain a healthy weight and build stamina in the lungs, so they get out of breath less.
- boosts the immune system, meaning that children are less likely to get coughs and colds, which would make their asthma worse.
- offers a boost to mood and self-esteem, influencing how they manage their asthma
- helps children feel more confident about their asthma and what is achievable
