Each month we share information, advice, and opportunities for you to join our networks, support groups or parenting sessions.

Read on to find out how you can connect with other parents and carers, participate in family activities, share your experiences and learn together.

1. Childcare

Need childcare for the upcoming half term holiday?

The next Tower Hamlets Holiday Childcare Scheme takes place on Monday 30 May  - Wednesday 1 June 2022 (three days).

Venue: St Anne’s and Guardian Angels Catholic Primary School, Underwood Road, Whitechapel, London E1 5AW

National Primary School Offer Day 2022

All primary school applicants received an offer of placement at a Tower Hamlets school on National offer Day 2022.

The borough received 3,048 primary school applications this year, with over 97% of children due to start in September being offered a place at one of their preferred schools - a slightly higher proportion than last year.

If you have any queries relating to primary school admissions, the borough’s Transition Support Service can provide advice and information.

RSE

Learn about the Relationships and Sex Education curriculum

Platform to Talk is a safe space for parents to come together, share their experiences and get reliable information. The sessions cover a range of topical issues from family life, parenting, health and wellbeing, school and more.

Join the next Platform to Talk session with the Tower Hamlets Healthy Lives Team where you will learn about the Department for Education’s Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) curriculum and get information on the delivery of RSE in Tower Hamlets.

4. EHCP

Annual Review and Education, Health and Care Plan workshops for parents

The Tower Hamlets & City Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Information, Advice and Support Service (SEND IASS) are offering some useful workshops for parents that will explore the key issues around Education, Health and Care Plans (ECHP) and Annual Reviews.

You will find out about the Annual Review and EHCP processes and discover the features of a good plan and review.

Both workshops are delivered in person at the Parents Advice Centre, 30 Greatorex Street, E1 5NP.

5. Transition

School transition support for parents

Come along to a special school transition event for parents of children in Year 3 and 4 with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). There will be a presentation from the Special Educational Needs (SEN) department as well as information on independent travel and the Local Offer website.

You will also have an opportunity to meet secondary school Special Educational Needs Coordinators (SENCOs).  Lunch will be provided.

7. Money

Are you worried about money?

If you are worried about money, there is a useful website that lists the support available in Tower Hamlets.

Whether you are struggling with the rising cost of living, suddenly find yourself without money or need advice on managing debt, the website has options for you.

8. Pregnant

Healthy Start – Free vitamins and help to buy healthy food and milk for pregnant women and under 4’s

If you are pregnant or have children under 4 you can get help to buy healthy food and milk if you are receiving certain benefits.

You could get between £4.25 - £8.50 a week per person to spend on milk, fruit, vegetables, and pulses.

Sign up online at www.healthystart.nhs.uk or visit your local Children and Family Centre or Idea Store for help.  Once you’ve received your card, call 0300 330 2090 to activate it before using it in the shops.

All pregnant, breastfeeding and up to 1-year postnatal women and children aged 0 – 4 years in Tower Hamlets can also collect free Healthy Start vitamins from a local Children and Family Centre.
