School Streets

School Streets in Tower Hamlets: do you want to know more?

Tower Hamlets recently conducted a consultation on plans for school streets.  The opportunity to comment has passed, in all but one school, but you can still learn more about the council’s plans.

What are School Streets?

School Streets are pioneering schemes to transform roads outside schools, so that pedestrians and cyclists can use them safely at school start and finish times.
The scheme aims to create areas where children can safely walk or wheel to and from school. It will encourage activity, reduce pollution and help with growth, learning and development. Each school will have different proposals, but all strive to reduce air pollution at the school gate. Staff, residents and businesses will still be able to access the area while making it safer and quieter for the school and the community.

Family Walk

Put a spring in your step! Take a walk as a family

This month, why not take a walk somewhere different with your family or with a friend?  Walk East has some great ideas for walks in the area. The Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park walk is a circular walk that takes about an hour and explores the secret woodland in the cemetery.  Or learn about some of Bethnal Green’s historic sites, consisting of a 3 mile walk, which includes a map and information about the area.
