Young Mayor

Tower Hamlets elects new Young Mayor

During a week-long election, from 11-17 October, young people across Tower Hamlets were able to vote for their new young mayor and deputies.  For the next two years, the young mayor will aim to provide a youth voice in local decision-making, ensuring young people’s concerns are understood and acted upon.

Sixteen-year-old Tahmid Hussen, who went to Bow school and currently attends St Paul’s Way Sixth Form, secured 1,558 (8.8%) of the total votes cast. Tahmid said in his manifesto that he would help young people in Tower Hamlets to become the “best versions of themselves”. He added that he will address “relationships and recipes to success, career paths and social media and mental health” during his tenure.
