My Home My Bari - installation, salons and guided walks

My Home, My Bari

Take a step back in time with My Home, My Bari -  an art installation that represents the living spaces of the British Bangladeshi community in 1971 in Tower Hamlets.

History begins at home, and as a celebration of the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh’s independence, acclaimed artist Rahemur Rahman has worked with a group of artists and young people from Tower Hamlets to evoke such a living space. This installation is a multi-sensory depiction of the textures, décor and aromas of those homes to trigger memories and associations of that era.

See the installation at the Kobi Nazrul Centre, off Brick Lane until 14 December. The installation is accompanied by a series of salons, discussing the themes of the exhibition, and guided walks around Brick Lane.  All FREE - book now

Cardboard Citizens present Resisting Christmas

Cardboard Citizens return to Rich Mix with two nights of performance, music and spoken word created by Londoners with experience of homelessness.

During lockdown, Cardboard Citizens members wrote short plays and recorded music about the housing crisis – what might lie ahead for those of us whose living situation becomes unstable, and what solutions might there be to address the crisis in the future.

Sketches of resistance and dissent, of chosen communities, and alternate ways of living as we emerge from the time of COVID into an era of creativity. From hostels, squats and temporary housing, direct to the Rich Mix stage – join your community in a festive-free two-day festival that looks towards a better 2022.

Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 December.  Book now.

The Incident at Marshfell - A new play at The Space

The Incident At Marshfell - a new play at The Space

Vital Theatre presents The Incident At Marshfell.  A new play by Michael Punter at The Space, Isle of Dogs on 9 and 10 December.

Thirteen years after a series of shocking and unexplained events shattered the lives of a family living alone on the marshes of East Sussex, two women arrange to meet. One is the daughter of the family and the other, a scientist who seeks to uncover the truth about Marshfell Cottage and the disturbing events that have defined their lives ever since.

But as the evening progresses, an uncanny energy fizzes in the room, interfering with sound and light, memory and reality.  Is it the house that is haunted?  Or is there something much more unknowable that needs their help?
