This is the FAMILIES newsletter from The Healthy Lives Team. Each Friday we share relevant information, activities and resources to support your ongoing health and wellbeing.

The HEALTHY LIVES TEAM supports schools, pupils and families with everything to do with health and wellbeing. We want to help you to live fitter, healthier and happier lives.

Young Mayor

Meet the Tower Hamlets’ Young Mayor 2021 election candidates

From 11 to 17 October, young people across Tower Hamlets will be voting for their new young mayor and deputies. Together, they’ll inject a youth voice into local decision-making and ensure young people’s concerns are understood and acted upon.

Covid-19 update

Covid-19 vaccination programme for all 12–15 year olds - parent webinar timetable

Following the government’s announcement, the Covid-19 vaccination programme for all 12–15 year olds will be rolled out in Tower Hamlets over the coming months. Please join LBTH Public Health Team at any of their webinars over the coming weeks, to hear more and to ask any questions you may have.

Swimming pool

Swimming in Tower Hamlets - sign up for status updates

There are five swimming pools in Tower Hamlets, two are currently open (Poplar Baths and Mile End), two are undergoing refurbishment until January 2022 (Tiller Leisure Centre and York Hall) and St George’s is currently closed subject to a consultation (coming soon). If you are a member of any leisure centre that is currently closed, you will be able to use any GLL Better branded pool in the Borough. A range of free garden and park activities from the Youth Sports Trust as part of their #together series. Activities include Crazy Golf using items around the home, frisbee and skipping challenges.

A range of free classic board games with a sporting twist from the Youth Sports Trust, as part of their #together series. The resource includes connect four, bingo, snakes and ladders and sport-opoly- all with a physical activity focus!

Tennis at home

Tennis at Home activities

Emma Raducanu made history by becoming Britain’s first female grand slam winner since Virginia Wade won Wimbledon in 1977. The 18-year-old’s win in the US Open Final has inspired a new generation of tennis players. The National Governing Body for Tennis have produced a Youth Home Activities Hub full of tennis activities for the whole family. The hub consists of tennis at home exercises - with short demonstration videos, activity cards, personal development challenges and cross curricular activities.
