Supporting children’s transition to secondary school
The Anna Freud Centre have launched their Moving up! transition animation and toolkit, which is accompanied by the ‘supporting children's transition to secondary school’ booklet for parents and carers.
The animation aims to support pupils to:
- Identify potential worries associated with starting secondary school
- Know they're not alone if they are feeling worried
- Talk to a trusted adult or friend if they have any concerns
- Identify solutions and strategies for looking after their mental health, including self-care
The booklet provides tips about preparing for or going through the transition to secondary school and how best they can be supported by their parents and carers. It includes guidance, which explains why the transition can be difficult for some children, practical advice such as talking and connecting with the new school, as well as suggested resources that children and parents and carers may find useful.
LTA Youth Schools Programme- Tennis
The 134th Wimbledon Championships started on Monday, after being delayed by a year. Signing up to the LTA Youth Schools Programme website enables teachers to access detailed tennis PE lesson plans for primary schools, tennis coaching videos, personal development opportunities, assemblies and cross curricular resources from Get Set to Ace it (tennis resources from Team GB and Paralympics).
Go Row Indoor Schools
The Go Row website introduces the Olympic sport of rowing, providing fun workouts and activities, virtual challenges and Junior Rowing Leadership awards; while promoting the physical and mental health and wellbeing benefits of rowing. The resources are designed to provide teachers with everything they need to teach indoor rowing, ranging from a library of basic technique videos, through to advanced training. All the resources are linked to the PE National Curriculum (2013) and are designed specifically for 11-16-year-old school children.
