The Healthy Lives Team Families update contains helpful information and activities for your whole school community

This is the FAMILIES newsletter from The Healthy Lives Team. Each Friday we share relevant information, activities and resources to support your ongoing health and wellbeing.

The HEALTHY LIVES TEAM supports schools, pupils and families with everything to do with health and wellbeing. We want to help you to live fitter, healthier and happier lives.

We now have a Healthy Lives Team webpage where you can find out more about the team and access Healthy Schools resources and all our archived newsletters.

Self care

The concept of self-care

For children to develop self-care they need adults who value their own self-care and can support children to take care and to begin to look after themselves. By noticing, validating and using language to name and describe feelings to children, they can begin to regulate and then to make choices to calm their bodies down or to energise themselves. Children need to hear it’s ok to put ourselves first, it’s ok to have a range of different feelings and to be able to ask for help.

Household testing

With about a third of individuals with coronavirus showing no symptoms and potentially spreading it without knowing, targeted, regular testing will mean more positive cases within households are found and prevented from entering schools and colleges, helping to keep educational settings safe.

Household testing

Anyone who lives with, or is in a bubble with, school staff and pupils will now be encouraged to test themselves twice weekly.

Government guidance on this announcement says that households can access tests at the following locations:

  • At existing local authority rapid test sites
  • Collection points (currently at local test centres) - you can collect two packs of seven tests at a time to test yourself at home
  • Through a new home ordering service (though people are being encouraged to collect tests whenever possible in order to avoid putting too much pressure on the delivery service)
  • Through an employer, if offered

crisis

Moment of crisis

We all have difficult moments from time to time, here's a short meditation to help you step away from digital distractions and get through to the other side. This too will pass.

If you also feel you need to hit pause you can play a moment of reflection, or perhaps if you just need a little chill try a moment of relaxation.

Find a little space to care for your mind, wherever you are, and whenever you like.
