Welcome to the new FAMILIES newsletter from The Healthy Lives Team!
Each Friday we will be sharing relevant information, activities and resources to support your ongoing health and wellbeing. This will go out to all contacts.
The Healthy Lives Team supports schools, pupils and families with everything to do with health and wellbeing. We want to help you to live fitter, healthier and happier lives.
We now have a Healthy Lives Team webpage where you can find out more about the team and access Healthy Schools resources and all our archived newsletters.
We are incredibly proud in Tower Hamlets to have supported schools to gain more Healthy Schools awards than any other borough in London. So please use this newsletter in whatever way suits you best to stay as fit and healthy as possible.

 New national restrictions in the fight against Covid-19
This is a reminder that new national lockdown restrictions are in place and you must follow the new rules from Thursday 5 November to help stop the spread of Covid-19.
The council continues to work through the restrictions to establish what they mean for council services, and are publishing updated advice for residents and businesses on the website.

 Mayor's Christmas card competition now open
It may be hard to believe but the festive season is approaching once again, and Mayor John Biggs is calling on children in the borough to help design this year's Christmas cards.
Our annual Christmas card competition is now open for children aged five to 11, who live or go to school in Tower Hamlets. As well as seeing their designs on this year’s e-cards, the three lucky winners will each receive a book token.
Parents, carers and teachers must email children's creative entries this year (rather than post) by 1pm on Tuesday 17 November.
 The Healthy Lives Team and Sugar Smart
The Healthy Lives team promotes Sugar Smart, a national campaign that raises awareness of excess sugar consumption. It helps to improve the food environment and its goal is to encourage and enable residents to reduce their sugar intake.
 The BAME Inequality Commission call to evidence on health inequalities is now open
The shocking and public killing of George Floyd, and subsequent Black Lives Matter demonstrations across the world has shone a light on the subject of racial inequality in our society.
In recognition of the high level of concern raised about the longstanding levels of racial inequality in the borough, Mayor John Biggs announced the establishment of a Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Inequality Commission.
The commission is tasked to deliver tangible and practical actions which will deliver real change to the lives of our Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities, and allow the council and its partners to champion the enormous impact these communities can contribute to the borough.

 Tower Hamlets No Place for Hate Campaign
Tower Hamlets have developed a No Place for Hate (NPFH) Campaign which aims to send clear and consistent messages that hate will not be tolerated in our borough. This goes beyond a media campaign to encourage positive messages of One Tower Hamlets but also aims to encourage communities to challenge hate if safe to do so.
Schools have a big role to play in tackling hate and discrimination and promoting community safety, which is why your school can sign the NPFH pledge and find out who else has signed it. Individuals can also sign a NPFH Personal Pledge if you live, work or visit the borough.
You can also read about the My Whole Self campaign, which is being run by Mental Health First Aid England designed to support organisations that are working to become actively anti-racist.
