Welcome to the new FAMILIES newsletter from The Healthy Lives Team!

Each Friday we will be sharing relevant information, activities and resources to support your ongoing health and wellbeing. This will go out to all contacts.

The Healthy Lives Team supports schools, pupils and families with everything to do with health and wellbeing. We want to help you to live fitter, healthier and happier lives.

We now have a Healthy Lives Team webpage where you can find out more about the team and access Healthy Schools resources and all our archived newsletters. 

We are incredibly proud in Tower Hamlets to have supported schools to gain more Healthy Schools awards than any other borough in London. So please use this newsletter in whatever way suits you best to stay as fit and healthy as possible.

Mindful

Mindful ideas for children

These child friendly mindful ideas incorporate simple breathing exercises to help children, three years old and up, to practice calming breathing exercises and explore ways to relax and unwind.

Half Moon

The Half Moon Theatre release new live recorded family shows

East London children’s theatre specialists Half Moon Theatre are screening free productions every two weeks.  Audiences will also be sent a series of accompanying online workshop activities to take part in after watching the shows.

Paper Aeroplane - 11am on Saturday 14 November

Developed with children who have shared their experiences of losing loved ones. It is for ages three to seven and sensitively explores loss and bereavement, the challenges we face when trying to move on, and how we can help one another along the way.

The House That Jackson Built - 11am on Saturday 28 November

This show is for children aged four to ten and celebrates books and the joy of reading. This magical spoken word theatre show delights in family, recycling and the power of imagination.

Pablo

Keeping children safe

This Department of Education’s guide for parents on ‘Keeping Children Safe’ during Community Activities, After-School Clubs and Tuition will help parents and carers choose a safe out-of-school setting for their children to attend.

Parents and carers should also read the guidance on children attending out-of-school settings during the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

Pablo

Reading for children with autism

Pablo is the first animated TV series to star an autistic character and can be found on Netflix and CBeebies. The core cast, who are all autistic themselves, provide an insight into what it is like to read as a person with autism and how parents and carers can support this learning.

A range of Pablo books accompany the series including Goodnight Pablo, Pablo and the noisy party, Pablo picks his shoes and Pablo’s feelings.
