Torridge District Council Launches a Call for Expressions of Interest for a Public Art Project in Westward Ho!
Artists are being urged to put themselves forward as Torridge District Council launches an ‘Expressions of Interest’ for a public art project in Westward Ho!. The project is being commissioned by the Council, with contributions secured from Wain Homes through a Section 106 planning agreement.
Artists are being invited to express their interest to be chosen to create an original, context-specific piece of artwork for the village, following on from a recent community engagement survey. The selected artist will then work alongside an already-established steering group which has been created in Westward Ho!, drawn from the community.
To express an interest, artists are encouraged to visit Westward Ho! Public Art Project | Torridge District Council where they can find a detailed outline of what is required and the selection process.
Expressions of Interest close at midday on Monday 5 October 2026. The Westward Ho! Project Steering Group and Community Panel will select a shortlist of three artists – who will each receive a ‘pitch fee’ to develop an outline concept with an indicative closing date of 11 December 2026. The selected artist will then work with the Westward Ho! community to shape a final proposal for consideration by Torridge District Council Community & Resources Committee before detailed design and fabrication.
Councillor Claire Hodson, Lead Member for Homelessness and Housing Need and ward member for Westward Ho! at Torridge District Council, said:
“This piece of art has the potential to become a valued landmark in the village, fostering pride among residents and offering a fresh cultural experience for our visitors. I am looking forward to seeing how artists celebrate and capture the spirit of Westward Ho! and contribute to its ongoing revitalisation through arts and culture.”
