 Construction on phase 2 of the Ogwell Walking and Cycling Link will begin week commencing 4 May 2026.
This phase will deliver a new 90‑metre shared‑use path for walking, wheeling and cycling. The route will extend from Bakers Park, pass through the existing hedgerow, cross the driveway to Bradley Manor, and connect through to Beverley Way, further strengthening safe and sustainable travel links.
Building on phase 1 (completed in 2024), the project will further improve safe, sustainable travel between Newton Abbot town centre and Ogwell. The works, delivered jointly by Teignbridge District Council and Devon County Council, include path construction, drainage, boundary treatments and landscaping, and are expected to last around 10 weeks, (weather permitting).
The scheme is funded through the Active Travel Fund, Devon County Council Local Transport Plan grant, Homes England, and Section 106 contributions administered by Teignbridge District Council.
 Highweek Scout Hut has reopened its doors to the community following a major refurbishment and expansion, made possible by a £175,000 grant from developer contributions.
Officially opened at a celebratory event on Sunday 26 April 2026, the project was funded through the NA2 Whitehill development and demonstrates Teignbridge District Council’s commitment to investing in high-quality community facilities for both new and existing residents.
The upgraded hut provides a modern, flexible and fully accessible base for Highweek Scouts, while also offering a welcoming venue for wider community use. Improvements include a larger kitchen, accessible toilets and showers, a separate meeting room, energy efficiency upgrades and a resurfaced car park.
 Although there are elections taking place in other areas of the UK on Thursday 7 May, there are no scheduled elections taking place in Teignbridge.
Teignbridge District Councillors are elected every four years. The last Teignbridge elections took place in 2023. Residents will have the opportunity to vote in local elections in 2027.
In recent years, Teignbridge voters have had the opportunity to take part in elections for Devon County Council in 2025 and in the General Election in 2024.
 Our payments system will be undergoing scheduled maintenance on Tuesday 12 May.

 The footpath linking Dawlish Museum/Barton Terrace to Barton Hill Car Park will be closed during the daytime on Wednesday 6 and Thursday 7 May 2026.
The closure is necessary due to scaffolding works being carried out to the external elevations of Dawlish Museum. As a result, the gate and adjacent footpaths will be closed for safety reasons. The access path from Barton Hill will also be inaccessible from the museum end/exit during this period.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and ask that you use an alternative route while the closures are in place.
 Ahead of the bank holiday weekend, we are reminding residents and visitors that the footpath through the Ness woodland and sections of Shaldon beach remain closed following a significant cliff fall at the end of March.
Initial surveys commissioned by Teignbridge District Council show a continuing risk of further cliff falls. Warning signs, fencing and barriers are in place to protect public safety, though some have unfortunately been removed or vandalised. Please follow all signage, respect barriers, and keep clear of closed areas.
The partial closure of Shaldon beach has reduced the area where dogs are allowed without restriction. Dog walkers are advised to use the dog‑friendly beach at Ness Cove.
Local businesses, including Shaldon Wildlife Trust, The Ness Hotel and the Ness Gift Shop, remain open, and access to Ness Cove via the Smugglers’ Tunnel is unaffected.
The South West Coast Path remains open via a signed diversion through the Ness car park, public highway and into Shaldon.
Shaldon Beach clean
There will also be some restrictions to Shaldon Beach on Thursday 7 and Friday 8 May to ensure members of the public are kept safe as Shaldon Parish Council conducts its annual beach clean.
Some of the work involves heavy machinery and the beach between the Quay and Shaldon House is likely to be closed between 10am and 2pm. Marshalls will ensure access to the ferry is maintained.
Please respect the safety precautions in place as Shaldon Parish Council and volunteers work to prepare the beach for the summer.

Reprofiling works at The Point beach
On the other side of the River Teign, Teignmouth Harbour Commission will begin reprofiling The Point beach from Tuesday 5 May to ensure navigational safety to the port.
The date has been chosen to avoid the May Bank Holiday and work is expected to take no longer than three weeks.
During this time, some areas of the Point will be fenced off to ensure public safety.
Teignmouth Harbour Commission is asking beach users including walkers and anglers to please respect any temporary restrictions so the work can be carried out as quickly and as safely as possible. There will be no impact on anyone using the water.

 This week’s Landlords and Letting Agents Briefing was a great success, with over 55 attendees joining us to hear an update on the new Renters’ Rights legislation, which comes into force today (1 May 2026).
The Renters’ Rights Act introduces major changes for private landlords, including the end of Section 21 evictions, the introduction of periodic tenancies, limits on rent increases, and new rules relating to pets, property advertising, and discrimination.
