Here are the first pictures from inside the new refurbished Broadmeadow Sports Centre and it looks stunning!
Our Broadmeadow team has started a 10-day fit-out period, during which will include installing gym equipment, setting up storage solutions, putting up signage and graphics, and preparing the space for use. Unit 9 will remain open during this period.
Join us for a tour around on Thursday 24 July and see the bigger, better and greener sports centre for yourself.
From next Tuesday (22 July) you may notice that calling us is slightly different. We’re upgrading our telephone system to improve your experience and the service we can provide for residents.
Here’s what’s new:
- Queue updates: if there are callers ahead of you, you’ll now hear your position in the queue and an estimated wait time.
- Call-back option: if your wait is longer than 10 minutes, you can request a call back. You’ll keep your place in the queue, and we’ll ring you back as soon as an advisor is available.
- Smarter call routing: our interactive voice response system (e.g., “Press 1 for…”) has been updated to help direct your call to the right department more efficiently.
- Improved Support: our team will now automatically see your previous case history, which will speed up the process.
Don't forget, you can also find information about our services on our website.
We've been running our Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) drop-in sessions across Teignbridge and it's been fantastic to see residents getting involved, asking questions, and sharing their thoughts. This week, we have enjoyed speaking to our communities in Tedburn St Mary, Moretonhampstead, Ipplepen, Bovey Tracy, Chudleigh and Ashburton.
Our final four events take place next week, so there's still time to have your say and find out more about the plans around LGR. No need to book – just drop in!

A report on the future of public toilet provision in Teignbridge will be discussed at Full Council on Tuesday, 29 July.
Public conveniences have been identified as being an area of high spend where savings could be made and the proposals would save around £250,000 a year.
Teignbridge currently operates 22 public conveniences across the district, however providing public toilets is a discretionary and non-statutory service for the Council.
The aim of the review is not to close toilets, but to work closely with town and parish councils to maintain provision and, where possible, transfer the management of toilets.
As a council, we ensure that the 7000 trees across the district which are located on our land are regularly inspected by professional arboricultural consultants.
As a result of a recent visit by the inspectors, we have been advised that one of the prominent Chestnut trees next to the play area at Baker’s Park, Newton Abbot needs to be felled.
Unfortunately, it has become apparent during regular monitoring that this tree has been deteriorating over several years, and to ensure the safety of all park visitors, the tree now needs to be felled.
This work will take place on Thursday 24 and Friday 25 July 2025.
Our contracted tree surgeons will use a technique called a “sectional fell”, which will require an area around the tree to be cordoned off for everyone’s safety, so please bear this in mind alongside the noise the work will create.
We will replace this tree with another Chestnut during the next planting season during the winter.

Our officers have visited the unauthorised encampment at Osborne Park in Newton Abbot several times since last weekend to assess the situation.
Before we can begin legal proceedings to remove an unauthorised encampment, we are required to carry out welfare checks on those present which our teams did earlier this week, along with delivering some bins. As part of the legal process, Teignbridge District Council issued a verbal notice asking the group to leave which is the first step in the formal procedure.
We must follow a legal process that takes into account a range of factors, including tolerance, relevant case law, the Human Rights Act, and other statutory obligations. If necessary, we will take further legal action to ensure the site is vacated.
We are continuing to work closely with Devon and Cornwall Police. If you witness a crime or serious anti-social behaviour, please report it directly to the police, by using the online 101 reporting form.
We are also reviewing options to prevent future unauthorised access to our land. However, this is not always straightforward. Many of our sites are used by schools, require bus access, or have layouts that make it difficult to restrict vehicle access for some while maintaining easy access for others. Despite these challenges, we are actively exploring all viable options.
