December 2024
|
|
Thank you for supporting your collection crews and recycling so much in 2024!
This email includes; how your bin and box collection days will change over Christmas, where to recycle your Christmas tree, and which box to put your wrapping paper in.
|
|
|
Your collection days will change after the Christmas bank holidays.
The table in the image below shows the adjusted Christmas schedule.
You can also find your next three collection days on on our website.
Due to the increase in waste over the festive period, collections can be delayed.
If collections in your street are later than planned, please leave your bins and boxes out. We will collect them as soon as possible.
Please be mindful of how you park when visiting family and friends. Cars parked on street corners and tight spots can stop collections taking place.

To help our crews, we would be grateful if you could take any extra waste and recycling you have to a recycling bank or the recycling centre.
Alternatively, you can put it in your boxes over a few weeks.
-
The recycling centre, on Brunel Industrial estate in Newton Abbot, is open every day of the year except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
- Our recycling banks, found in car parks across the district, are emptied Monday to Friday except for on bank holidays.
If you visit a bank and it is full, please try an alternative location or visit again at a later date. If you leave waste next to our banks it is considered fly-tipping and you could receive a fine.
|
Garden waste collections stop over Christmas to allow staff members to help collect recycling and black bins.
There will be no garden waste collections between Wednesday 25 December 2024 and Wednesday 8 January 2025. We will start collecting garden waste again on Thursday 9 January 2025.
|
We have drop off points where you can take your real Christmas tree after Christmas.
Most sites are open on the weekends of the 4-5 January and 11-12 January 2025.
You can find information on each location and the opening times on our website.
Please remember to remove all your decorations.
|
Wrapping paper
Put your wrapping paper and coloured envelopes in your green recycling box with your cardboard.
Due to the low quality fibres we cannot recycle wrapping paper in your paper recycling sack.
Christmas cards
Remove any parts containing foil or glitter and recycle your Christmas cards in your green recycling box.
Alternatively, reuse your cards as gift tags next year.
Cardboard boxes
When recycling your cardboard boxes, please remember to remove any polystyrene, bubble wrap and other materials before folding them to fit into your green recycling box.
Polystyrene and bubble wrap need to be put in your black wheeled bin for disposal. Alternatively, bubble wrap can be recycled at a supermarket drop off point as part of plastic bag recycling schemes.
Large cardboard boxes should be taken to a cardboard recycling bank or the recycling centre.
|
Recycle all your tins, cans and glass bottles
Many of us will be entertaining over the Christmas and New Year period.
Rinse and squash any tins and cans before putting them in your black recycling box. If you have a large number please use a can recycling bank.
Rinse glass bottles them and put them in your green recycling box with your card.
Our crews can collect quicker if there is separation between the cardboard and glass within your box. If you have a large number of bottles, please use a glass bottle bank.

Eat, drink and recycle
Once you've finished your Christmas lunch, pop any plate scrapping in your kitchen caddy, then transfer to your food waste container to recycle.
Line your food waste container with a plastic bag to keep it clean. We'd recommend reusing an old bread bag, frozen food bag or similar. Wrapping your food waste will also prevent the smells that can attract animals to your caddy.
If you have cooked too much, you can freeze any additional food you have and eat it at a later date. Leftover food can also be used in a variety of recipes.
