Local people are invited to comment on resubmitted planning applications for the proposed new neighbourhood of Houghton Barton.
The landscape of this proposed new development to the west of Newton Abbot provides the perfect environment for people to walk and cycle and use their cars less, with local facilities and centres as focal points in close proximity, and direct access to wider nature. This benefits the community in many ways, from reducing congestion and pollution to boosting their health and wellbeing through increased activity and being outdoors.
Proposals for Houghton Barton and its neighbouring community of Bradmore include around 2000 homes, employment spaces, a primary and secondary school, social and community facilities, green spaces, a wide range of plant and animal species and attractive walking and cycling routes.
Following the original consultation, some amendments have been made to the applications and residents can now comment on resubmitted applications. For more information or to view and comment on the resubmitted applications visit our website.

Teignbridge Arts Project (TAP) has now opened for applications to fund arts projects across the district.
TAP is a competitive grants scheme that aims to enhance Teignbridge’s existing opportunities to experience and participate in the arts. We welcome bids that support exhibitions and public performances as well as those that focus on stimulating wider participation, especially in under-represented areas.
Teignbridge officers are working with a group of volunteers on the Teignbridge Arts Project Advisory Board. The Board is made up of local arts experts from across the district, who will oversee and manage the grants scheme. Pop up clinics are also taking place to support applications.
To apply for a grant visit the Teignbridge website.

One of our Waste and Recycling Teams gained a little extra help on one of their rounds recently from one of our younger residents.
Riley from Starcross loves recycling and can often be found sorting out the recycling for his family and all his neighbours wearing his high-vis vest.
Earlier this month he joined his local waste and recycling team on part of their collection route, sorting all the cardboard and other recycles around the estate and proved very helpful.
Riley's Mum wrote to us to say: "Thank you to the local team for going above and beyond to make one young boy very happy!"

A diverse group of local people from across Teignbridge are coming together for a week-long arts festival this June, to raise awareness of the climate crisis. Over 300 artists, musicians, choirs, schools, libraries and more will take part in a vibrant programme of events across Newton Abbot, Teignmouth, Bovey Tracey and Ashburton, Chudleigh, Kingsteignton, and Buckfastleigh with exhibitions, performances, concerts, workshops, street entertainment and more.
Organised by local environmental group, Action on Climate in Teignbridge, the ACT with the Arts Climate Festival will help to 'involve, engage, excite, illuminate, and explain what our changing climate means for us, and what we can all do to reduce our impact on the planet and improve our lives locally.'
Almost all events are free, although some evening performances are ticketed at low cost, and there are free workshops that need to be booked in advance.
Please see the website for the full programme of events.

Know a volunteer who deserves special recognition?
How have volunteers helped you?
Maybe it’s the sports coach who gave your child their confidence back; or the kind volunteer who sat with you so patiently when you were anxious about your hospital appointment; or the befriender who comes to see you every week and always makes you smile; or your neighbour who helps keep the street tidy by doing litter picks and weeding.
Whoever has helped brighten your days, you can bet they’ve done the same for others too! We want to show these people our appreciation, because they make Teignbridge such a special place for us all.
In November, Teignbridge CVS is organising an awards ceremony to celebrate the people who make Teignbridge such a wonderful place to live.
If there’s a volunteer who’s had a positive impact on your life, please email chloe@teigncvs.org.uk by Sunday 15 September to nominate them for an award.
