Whilst we will do everything we can to keep to the schedule, this is not always possible due to the increase in waste over the festive period.
If collections in your street are delayed, please leave your bins and boxes out and they will be collected as soon as possible.
To help us keep to schedule, please be mindful of how you park when visiting family and friends. Cars parked on street corners and tight spots can prevent collections from taking place.
Extra waste
Take extra waste to a recycling bank
It will help us collect to schedule if any extra waste and recycling you have could be spread over a few collections or taken to a recycling bank or the recycling centre.
The recycling centre is open every day of the year except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
Recycling banks are emptied Monday to Friday except for on bank holidays.
If a bank is full when you visit, please use an alternative location or keep hold of your recycling and get rid of it at a later date.
Any waste left next to banks is considered fly tipping, and is a fineable offense.
Garden waste collections break
Garden waste collections stop over Christmas to allow staff members to help crews collecting recycling and refuse.
There will be no garden waste collections between Monday 25 December 2023 and Monday 8 January 2024. We will start collecting garden waste again on Tuesday 9 January.
Christmas tree collection points
Find your nearest Christmas tree recycling site.
We have drop off points across the district where you can take your real Christmas tree after Christmas.
Due to the quality of the fibres, wrapping paper and coloured envelopes should be recycled in your green recycling box with your cardboard and not with your paper in your paper recycling sack.
When recycling your cardboard boxes, please remember to remove any polystyrene, bubble wrap and other materials before folding your boxes down to fit into your green recycling box.
Polystyrene and bubble wrap need to be put in your black wheeled bin for disposal. Alternatively, bubble wrap can be recycled at a supermarket drop off point as part of plastic bag recycling schemes.
Many of us will be entertaining over the Christmas and New Year period.
Please rinse and squash any tins and cans before placing them in your black recycling box. If you have a large number please visit a can recycling bank.
To recycle glass bottles simply rinse them and put them in your green recycling box with your card. Our crews can collect quicker if there is separation between the cardboard and glass within your box. If you have a large number of bottles, please visit a glass bottle bank.
Leftovers
Eat, drink and recycle
Once you've finished your Christmas lunch, pop any plate scrapping in your kitchen caddy, then transfer to your food waste container to recycle on your next recycling collection day.
Remember to line your food waste container with a plastic bag to keep it clean. We'd recommend reusing an old bread bag, frozen food bag or similar. Wrapping your food waste will also prevent the smells that can attract animals to your caddy.
If you have over catered, you can freeze any additional food you have and eat it at a later date. Leftover food can also be used in a variety of recipes.
