Tomorrow at the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month, we take time to pause and pay our respects to our Armed Forces community, past and present and remember all those who gave their lives in service to their country since 1914.

The first anniversary of the Teignbridge Lottery for Communities has been marked by the distribution of the small grants fund with 15 good causes across Teignbridge benefiting.
More than £13,000 from ticket sales (10p per ticket) went into a small grants fund this year and applications were invited from the 80 charities registered with the Lottery to apply for a grant of up to £2,500 to support initiatives aimed at helping local people through the current cost of living crisis.
And because the fund this year had a cost-of-living support focus, it attracted an additional £20,000 from the Economic Vulnerability Fund allocated by Devon County Council, bringing the total distributed to over £33,000.
The successful bids came from across the district, and covered services from lunch clubs and food services to activities that support carers and a community garden project.
Full details of how the money was distributed are set out in this news release In addition to the small grants funding, some £55,000 has been raised for good causes in Teignbridge through the Lottery since it was launched last year.
Our thanks to everyone who has supported the lottery and the 80 charities by buying tickets in the past year. Your purchases have made a difference!

Learning more about our waste and recycling service
Two members of our customer support staff joined our waste and recycling crews last week to increase their knowledge of how rubbish is collected so that they can better deal with customer queries.
Graham Rees and Sinead North joined one of our recycling lorries, switched over to another lorry collecting black bins and finished their day at the bulking station.
It was a real eye opener for them, experiencing some of the abuse that our crews occasionally have to deal with and the general moans about some recent council decisions which have nothing to do with our waste and recycling staff.
The plan is for other members of the customer support team to spend time with the crews to increase their understanding of the issues they face and so be better able to answer calls on waste and recycling issues.
Teignmouth Town Council Neighbourhood Plan
A reminder that the consultation closes at noon on 15 November so if you live in the Town and want to comment make sure you do so before Wednesday. All the details are on our website together with a link to the online feedback form.
A new collaborative service connecting Teignbridge residents with local community and voluntary organisations has recently launched, with some great early results.
The pandemic and cost-of-living crisis have seen a dramatic increase in the volume of requests for support which fall outside of what the council is able to provide
The Community Connectors work for Teignbridge CVS. Your point of contact within the council can refer you for support or you can refer yourself via an online form.
Referrals from both Customer Support and Housing have so far led to positive outcomes, with clients accessing support from trusted local organisations for issues such as isolation, food and fuel poverty, sourcing household items and white goods, administrative tasks, welfare and benefit checks and responding to residents affected by flooding.
To read more about the project, see the CVS website.
If you are struggling with an issue yourself, please feel free to self-refer by completing this form.

The pressures on local government finances has led the national Local Government Association (LGA) to launch a #SaveLocalServices campaign aimed at persuading government to increase funding in the Autumn Statement on 22 November.
The LGA is calling on the Government to urgently provide adequate funding, longer-term certainty and more clarity on financial reform so councils can keep running the services that communities rely on.
The LGA says that despite additional funding this year, council finances are under strain like never before. The pressure on council budgets is mounting with spiking inflation, high energy costs, and increases to the National Living Wage, while the demand for services continues to rise.

Couples who are married or in a civil partnership are being urged by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) to spend just 30 seconds to see if they can claim Marriage Allowance and boost their finances by up to £252 a year.
By using HMRC’s online Marriage Allowance calculator during Talk Money Week, couples can find out instantly if they are eligible. Couples who may be unaware that they could claim include those where one partner is working and the other has income less than their personal allowance of £12,570, including those who:
- have retired
- have given up work to care for children or elderly relatives
- are unable to work because of long term health conditions
- have a part time job
- have a low paid job
HMRC says that it is quick and easy to claim Marriage Allowance for free via GOV.UK and that applying directly on GOV.UK means couples will receive 100% of the tax relief due.
