A six week consultation on the Neighbourhood Development Plan for Teignmouth, which will influence development within the parish for the next 10 years, will begin on 4 October.
The plan sets out local planning policies within a vision for the future of the parish and which, together with the Teignbridge Local Plan will be used to determine planning applications.
The plan has been written by the Teignmouth Town Council Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group in partnership with Teignmouth Town Council and is based on the views and aspirations of the local community, as expressed in numerous surveys, consultations and events since the process began in 2013.
From the start of consultation at noon on 4 October until noon on 15 November details of the plan and how residents and business owners can submit comments will be available online at teignbridge.gov.uk/teignmouthnp. Please note the page will not go live until the consultation starts.
Paper copies of the response form will be available at the following locations during their normal opening hours:
- Pavilions Teignmouth, Den Crescent, Teignmouth, TQ14 8BG
- Teignmouth Town Council - Bitton House, Bitton Park Rd, Teignmouth, TQ14 9DF
Following the consultation, all written comments will be passed to an independent examiner for review and possible amendment of the plan. Following this, residents aged over 18 and on the electoral register will have the final say in a referendum, expected to be held in early 2024, on whether or not the plan should be adopted.

Want to pay less for reliable broadband?
Ofcom have worked with companies to offer cheaper reliable broadband and mobile phone packages. These deals are available to people claiming Universal Credit, Pension Credit and some other benefits.
Some deals are as low as £10 per month, so a simple switch could save you £202 a year against the average yearly cost of broadband.
Find out if you or someone you know could be eligible to switch to low-cost broadband or phone services.
This week at Newton Abbot Magistrates Court saw the successful Prosecution of Colleen Hooper for fly tipping rubbish in Sainsbury's Car Park, Newton Abbot, which included household waste, face masks and used covid test kits. The rubbish was dumped next to the recycling skips labelled for recycling plastic, glass and cardboard, despite signs saying any waste or recycling left outside of the skips would be treated as fly tipping and could result in a fine or prosecution.
Ms Hooper failed to pay the fixed Penalty Notice issued by the Council and Newton Abbot Magistrates Court found her guilty of the offence. She was ordered to pay a fine of £440 plus a surcharge of £179 and the Council was awarded its full costs of the investigation and prosecution of the case, bringing the total owed to £1,481.08.

Whether we like it or not, children as young as primary age learn about sex every day in our digital age. Advertising, music, TV, movies and the Internet constantly bombard kids with a skewed version of sex and relationships.
After the hugely successful Let’s Talk Teens and Pre-teen sessions, the team is now running a free online session in October to help provide parents and guardians with the tools to have the difficult discussions with their kids around the topic of pornography.
This session takes place on Wednesday 10 October, and will be delivered by experts in this field, and aims to help give parents and carers a framework in which to have gentle, safe conversations with their children about explicit content.

Some of the smaller vehicles we use to collect from harder to reach locations have been off the road awaiting repairs this week.
For residents whose recycling is collected from one of these small vehicles and whose collection was missed this week, we will collect additional recycling from their next collection to compensate for the one we were unable to complete. You can put this recycling in any container - it doesn't need to be your green box.
Anyone who would prefer not to wait can take their recycling to their nearest recycling bank or recycling centre.
We are sorry for the inconvenience this has caused our residents.
