Complaint upheld
The Local Government & Social Care Ombudsman yesterday published a report upholding a complaint by Cllr Richard Daws that the Council failed to follow due process when investigating him in 2019-2020 for alleged breaches of its code of conduct for elected councillors.
Council Leader Cllr Alan Connett has written to Cllr Daws, apologising for the manner in which the council handled the Standards Committee’s complaints process.
The Council has three months to consider the report and to respond to the Ombudsman outlining the action it has taken/proposes to take to rectify the procedural issues.
Deadline drawing near for feedback on our budget priorities?
Noon on Wednesday (25 January) is the deadline to complete our short budget survey and to give us your views on our priorities for the next financial year.
The survey gives you the chance to have your say on priorities such as tackling climate change; strengthening the local economy, attracting new businesses and boosting job opportunities; building affordable homes and investing in better transport links.
Feedback from the survey will inform councillors before they make the final budget decisions next month. We'll also include feedback on the consultation pages of our website, in our newsletters and on social media.
If you haven't yet taken the few minutes to complete the survey please try and do it before noon on Wednesday. It would be good to get your views.

Local Plan consultation starts on Monday
Residents will have seven weeks from noon on Monday (23 January) to comment for the fifth and last time on Teignbridge’s draft Local Plan which will shape future development in the district until 2040.
The launch of the consultation, which runs until midday on Monday 13 March, concludes a local engagement process that began in 2017 and has resulted in the latest version of the Plan being influenced by the 7,000 plus comments submitted in the previous four consultations.

Not too late to have the jabs
Devon NHS is reminding people who have a learning disability and those who care for them that it’s not too late for them to have a free flu vaccination and additional Covid-19 booster.
Preventing Covid-19 and flu is particularly important for people with learning disabilities, who are much more vulnerable to both viruses.
A series of three new films, launched by NHS Devon and Devon County Council highlight the importance of having both the vaccinations and annual health checks.
The films follow Damon, who has a learning disability and is needle phobic as he has his vaccination and Kylie, who also has a learning disability and is a carer for her mum.
