Teignbridge District Council is one of 25 local authorities selected to take part in a national, innovative design code programme and has been awarded £160,000 of Government funding. This programme aims to raise standards of local developments by involving local communities in shaping a design code, ensuring they have a chance to help establish attractive places to live; reflect local characteristics, set quality standards, identify layout styles and make the most of open space opportunities. This will help fulfil our ambition to provide decent homes, facilities, jobs, quality of life and surroundings where the local community is at the forefront of creating a place fit for the future.

Council news
Local Plan consultation timetable
This starts on Monday and runs for seven weeks, closing at midday on 13 March. A news release was issued yesterday highlighting the timetable.
Process complaint upheld by Ombudsman
In 2020 the Standards Committee upheld a complaint against Cllr Richard Daws that he had broken the council’s code of conduct.
Cllr Daws complained to the Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman, alleging that the council had not followed due process.
Following an investigation, the Ombudsman has upheld Cllr Daw’s complaint in a report published today.
In response to it we have issued the following statement.
“We are disappointed that the Ombudsman concluded that contrary to what they believed at the time, our staff did not follow the correct procedures in relation to complaints against Cllr Daws.
“We are already in the process of reviewing the constitution, including members’ conduct, our processes and record keeping and in the coming weeks we will review our current approach in the light of the Ombudsman’s findings and recommendations.
“Council Leader Cllr Alan Connett has written to Cllr Daws apologising without reservation for the way the council handled the Standards complaints process and for the distress and upset caused.
“We must continue to ensure that officers are respected and supported to offer a professional, impartial and valuable service and that all members conduct themselves in accordance with the Nolan Principles enshrined in the Council’s Code of Conduct.”
The Council has three months to consider the report and to respond to the Ombudsman outlining the action it has taken/proposes to take to rectify the procedural issues.
Permit application process simplified
People wanting to fish at Decoy Countryside Park can now apply for a permit online.
In the past applications have been paper based with payment by phone. The new procedure should make it easier for anglers to apply for either a daily or annual permit.
Posters are being displayed at Decoy, containing a QR code which makes it simple for people to link to our website to buy a pass.
