Local plan consultation agreed

Local Plan cover image

Councillors agreed yesterday to give local people their fifth and final opportunity to comment on the draft Local Plan which will shape future development in Teignbridge until 2040.

Consultation will run from Monday 23 January for six weeks and all comments received will be submitted with the draft plan for examination in public by the planning inspectorate.

The details of the Local Plan discussed by councillors at yesterday's Full Council meeting will now be finalised and available at the start of consultation online, in libraries and in town and parish council offices so that people can see the proposals and comment.  The easiest way to do this will be to use an online feedback form.

The draft plan aims to provide homes and jobs for local people, protect valued environments, create more public open spaces, tackle climate change and promote low carbon energy to help secure future energy needs.

Councillors were scheduled to consider the plan last month but an announcement by Michael Gove, the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities, on proposed changes to housebuilding targets led to a delay to allow time to consider any implications for the Local Plan.

Yesterday councillors agreed to proceed with the local plan timetable, having concluded that delay would leave the Council less able to control the siting of new homes with planning applications being governed increasingly by national guidelines and through the planning appeals process.

Councillors, however, agreed that should current Government housing requirements become advisory, the council would “undertake a review of the district’s housing needs……and if a lower housing requirement is identified proceed with an urgent partial review of the Plan which reflects a lower housing needs target”.

Teignbridge Lottery for Communities. Play now to boost our fundraising

Big local lotto win

One lucky lottery player won £2,000 last weekend by matching five numbers in our Teignbridge Lottery for Communities.

Graham Thompson, Chair of Teign Valley Museum & Archive Trust, was delighted with his win which he has generously donated to the Trust.  “Teign Valley Museum and Archive Trust has entered over 4000 items on its website and has as many queuing up. This prize, which has been handed to the Trust, will help replace our ageing computer dying of old age so has come at just the right time. Without our computer all activity would have ceased,” he said

“Thank you to Teignbridge Lottery for Communities for this opportunity and particularly to the person who thought of it in the first place."

A supporter of The Alice Cross Centre matched four numbers last weekend and won £250 and there were winners of other smaller prizes.

A total of 67 good causes are benefitting from the money being raised by the 1,664 lottery tickets sold so if you want to support one, go to the Teignbridge Lottery for Communities website and buy a ticket.  Match six numbers and you will win the £25,000 jackpot!
