Help shape a new community for Newton Abbot
Want to help shape the future of a new neighbourhood in Newton Abbot and earn some extra money?
We’re looking for local residents to help us create a ‘Design Code’, which will enhance the quality, sustainability and appearance of a new neighbourhood to the west of Newton Abbot.
To do this we are recruiting a Citizens’ Panel to work with us and our partners to share their ideas and views in workshops over the coming months, helping to create attractive places to live, work and visit.
The Citizens’ Panel will meet up to six times starting later this month until February 2023. These workshops will take place in Newton Abbot on a Thursday or Friday from 10am – 12pm. Panel members will be expected to attend all six sessions and will be paid £40 to cover expenses and time for each session through funding received from the Government.

Former countryside ranger wins prestigious BBC wildlife award
A former ranger in our Countryside Management team has won a prestigious BBC award, for her wildlife work.
Audrey Compton won this year's BBC Radio Devon’s ‘Make a Difference’ Environment Award, for her work to preserve wildlife in Teignbridge.
She won the BBC Environment Award in recognition of her hard work in establishing the Wildlife Warden Scheme under the umbrella of Action on Climate in Teignbridge (ACT). The scheme was set up to find volunteers across Teignbridge to help wildlife survive and thrive in their communities, and there are now 94 Wildlife Wardens working in 37 parishes.
Wardens work on a variety of projects; writing for media on wildlife gardening and similar topics; some monitor streams and rivers to assess water quality; surveying possible wildlife sites and protecting valuable habitats from development.
Audrey worked for Teignbridge for around 15 years. Starting as a Ranger at Dawlish Warren, she then became Senior Ranger for the South Teignbridge sites and in the latter parts headed up Countryside Management.
Audrey, who continues to work closely with our Green Spaces team through her work with ACT, said: “This Award’s recognition of the scheme’s achievements has delighted the Wildlife Wardens, who feel proud and even more motivated to continue the work they love."
Former colleague and current Ranger Sian Avon said: "Audrey’s commitment to conserving wildlife habitats and the wildlife that inhabits them - and the passion to engage and inspire others is immeasurable. I feel very lucky to have had her as a colleague and to have her as a great friend."
If you are interested in joining ACT and/or being a Wildlife Warden you can find more information on the ACT website

Footpath closures for investigations
Work is due to start next year on resilience measures to protect the railway from debris falling from the cliffs between Dawlish and Holcombe.
Site surveys are under way and sections of the footpath at Lea Mount, Dawlish, will be closed from Monday 7 November to Saturday 12 November to allow ground investigations.
The resilience measures will include netting designed to retain the cliffs in some high-risk locations; and catch fences in others, which will stop any cliff material before it reaches the railway.
More details are on Network Rail's website.
