Teignbridge Lottery. Calling all good causes. Give your fundraising a boost. It's free and easy to raise funds with our lottery. Get started now

Lots of support for new lottery

It’s just three weeks until residents can support one of their favourite good causes by buying tickets for the new Teignbridge Community Lottery.

Following a successful launch event organised in partnership with Teignbridge CVS at the end of last month, 26 good causes have signed up to take part and to have a promotional page on the new Teignbridge Lottery for Communities website.

The website will not only give details of the good causes being supported by the new lottery but will also be where residents go to buy their lottery tickets and these will be on sale from 1 November with the first draw being held on 3 December.

The good causes will share 50% of the ticket sales revenue with a further 10% going into a small grants fund to be distributed to local projects by the Council. 20 per cent  will go on prizes with the remainder paying for running costs and VAT.

Although time is tight, it is not too late for good causes to get involved. Town and Parish Councils are asked to share this with local good causes and to encourage those wanting to be part of this new fund-raising initiative to sign up via the website.

As some interested good causes were unable to make the 28 September launch event, the CVS is holding two further sessions to share information about the Lottery, answer any questions and show organisations how to sign up and be one of the beneficiary good causes.

Both sessions will be delivered on zoom – links will be sent out nearer the sessions to those who have signed up via Eventbrite using the following links:

Join us in encouraging local people to stand for election

Ahead of next year’s elections, can you help us to remind residents of the opportunity they have to stand for election, become a councillor and make a real difference to their communities.

Over the coming weeks we will be encouraging people from all walks of life to consider standing as a councillor and to tell us in a short poll on LinkedIn what they think would inspire more local residents put themselves forward as candidates.

On our ‘Be a councillor’ web page you'll find some short videos of our councillors explaining why they stood for election and we will be using these throughout the campaign on social media. We are also signposting interested people to The Local Government Association website which has a lot of useful information for people thinking of becoming a councillor.

Why not join in and support this campaign using #beacouncillor, sharing any of our videos or getting some of your councillors to record themselves saying why they first stood for election.

As part of this campaign we will be holding local sessions to outline the role and to answer questions from anyone thinking of putting themselves forward for election.

Together for Teignbridge - supporting communities through the cost of living crisis

Together for Teignbridge Supporting communities through the cost-of-living crisis

Teignbridge Council has joined forces with Teignbridge CVS to support local residents, businesses and communities through the cost-of -living crisis.

The initiative will involve leaflets, social media posts, videos, and stories pointing people to where they can get help – whether that’s to reduce their energy bills or to apply for one-off grants that might help them through a difficult patch such as losing a job or needing to find a new house.

The campaign will focus on some of the groups who might be most adversely affected, such as older people, young families; and people on income support, as well as small and medium sized businesses in the region who might be struggling with higher energy bills or a reduction in income through people needing to tighten their belts.

The campaign breaks down information into several themes:  housing and homelessness, energy and fuel poverty, food, money and debt, and health and wellbeing.  Local businesses are also invited to share information, advice and tips through the #TogetherforTeignbridge campaign – including offers, money saving tips, local community initiatives and advice on cost of living support.  We’ll also include examples and case studies in our residents’ newsletter and social media feeds over the coming weeks, so please let us know if you’ve got a cost of living story you’d like to share.

Teignbridge CVS has developed a ‘Worrying about money’ web tool and an accompanying leaflet will be distributed to local households and through food banks and other support outlets.

For more information please see our cost of living page.

We want to hear from rural businesses

Following last month’s announcement by the Government of ‘A Rural England Prosperity Fund’ Teignbridge has been awarded some £600,000 to help counter the challenges rural organisations and businesses often face such as lower productivity rates, poor connectivity and reduced access to key services.

We are keen to engage with community leaders and rural business owners/managers to discover how we can best use this funding to boost job opportunities and economic prosperity.

A consultation event in Newton Abbot is being organised and if you wish to attend, please email EconomyandAssets@teignbridge.gov.uk providing an email address which we can use to invite you when arrangements are finalised

This funding, which is part of the levelling up agenda, will aim to support rural business and communities and we would welcome representatives from both to the consultation event.

Further information about the fund is available on the government’s website.

Have your say. Call for Evidence launched as part of Net Zero Review

Net Zero Review Call for Evidence

The Government has launched a call for views from across the country on how the UK can eliminate carbon emissions in a way that grows the economy.

The month-long call for evidence is aimed at the public, councils and businesses and invites everyone to share their views on the green transition.

The call covers a range of topics, from how cutting people’s carbon footprint will affect their everyday lives, to how reaching net zero will be paid for and what more can be done to capitalise on it to grow the UK’s economy.

Earlier this month Devon Climate Emergency  partnership published the Devon Carbon Plan has been published today (Tuesday 27 September) providing a roadmap to becoming net-zero by 2050 at the latest, spelling out what we all have to do to create a resilient, sustainable county where people and nature can thrive.
