Keeping you up to date with local business information

We want to hear from rural businesses

Following last month’s announcement by the Government of ‘A Rural England Prosperity Fund’ Teignbridge has been awarded some £600,000 to help counter the challenges rural businesses often face such as lower productivity rates, poor connectivity and reduced access to key services.

We are keen to engage with rural business owners/managers and community leaders to discover how we can best use this funding to boost job opportunities and economic prosperity.

A consultation event in Newton Abbot is being organised and if you wish to attend, please email EconomyandAssets@teignbridge.gov.uk providing an email address which we can use to invite you when arrangements are finalised

This funding, which is part of the levelling up agenda, will aim to support rural business and communities and we would welcome representatives from both to the consultation event.

Further information about the fund is available on the government’s website.

Teignbridge Council Leader Cllr Alan Connett holding a sign saying: I stood for what I believe in. You can too. #beacouncilllor

Could your expertise boost local communities?

Do you think the business voice is being heard strongly enough when local decisions are being made by the council?

If not, why don’t you get involved and stand for election?  Becoming a councillor gives you the opportunity to bring your expertise to bear on improving council decision making and services.

People from all walks of life are being encouraged to consider standing as a councillor and to tell us in a short poll on LinkedIn what would encourage local residents and business people to put themselves forward as candidates.

Next year sees local district, town and parish council elections and with them  the chance to make a real difference to your community, playing a significant part in shaping the district’s future – whether that’s the environment, jobs, business and housing.  As a councillor you could help decide how our share of the council tax is spent, make planning decisions that can change the landscape of the district and make decisions that boost the local economy.

While it may be easier to get elected if you are a member of a political party, you don’t need to be to stand for election – Teignbridge has lots of councillors who are independent.

On our ‘Be a councillor’ web page you'll find some short videos of our councillors explaining why they stood for election, and if you want to find out more about the role, The Local Government Association has lots of information on its website for people thinking of becoming a councillor.

And if you are interested, keep an eye on our website for local sessions we will be running to outline the role and to answer questions from anyone thinking of putting themselves forward for election.

Have your say. Call for evidence launched as part of Net Zero Review

Net Zero Review Call for Evidence

The Government has launched a call for views from across the country on how the UK can eliminate carbon emissions in a way that grows the economy.

The month-long call for evidence is aimed at the public, councils and businesses and invites everyone to share their views on the green transition.

The call covers a range of topics, from how cutting people’s carbon footprint will affect their everyday lives, to how reaching net zero will be paid for and what more can be done to capitalise on it to grow the UK’s economy.

Earlier this month Devon Climate Emergency  partnership published the Devon Carbon Plan has been published today (Tuesday 27 September) providing a roadmap to becoming net-zero by 2050 at the latest, spelling out what we all have to do to create a resilient, sustainable county where people and nature can thrive.

Together for Teignbridge Supporting communities through the cost-of-living crisis

Together for Teignbridge - supporting communities through the cost of living crisis

Teignbridge Council has joined forces with Teignbridge CVS to support local residents, businesses and communities through the cost-of -living crisis.

The initiative will involve leaflets, social media posts, videos, and stories pointing people to where they can get help – whether that’s to reduce their energy bills or to apply for one-off grants that might help them through a difficult patch such as losing a job or needing to find a new house.

The campaign will focus on some of the groups who might be most adversely affected, such as older people, young families; and people on income support, as well as small and medium sized businesses in the region who might be struggling with higher energy bills or a reduction in income through people needing to tighten their belts.

The campaign breaks down information into several themes:  housing and homelessness, energy and fuel poverty, food, money and debt, and health and wellbeing.  Local businesses are also invited to share information, advice and tips through the #TogetherforTeignbridge campaign – including offers, money saving tips, local community initiatives and advice on cost of living support.  We’ll also include examples and case studies in our residents’ newsletter and social media feeds over the coming weeks, so please let us know if you’ve got a cost of living story you’d like to share.

Teignbridge CVS has developed a ‘Worrying about money’ web tool and an accompanying leaflet will be distributed to local households and through food banks and other support outlets.
