The proposed South Devon Cycleway will provide safe travel networks on the most used commuter routes through Teignbridge and Torbay as well as providing travel choices to Newton Abbot rail station and the upcoming Edginswell rail station.
Devon, Torbay and Teignbridge councils submitted a £14.5 million funding bid for the cycleway to the Government’s Levelling Up Fund. If successful, this important transport link will provide sustainable and active travel options between existing and planned routes, bringing about benefits to the local economy and businesses through improved commuter travel, as well as boosting health and wellbeing for families, residents and tourists.
The plan also responds to the Government’s challenge to improve cycling infrastructure in order to double the number of people cycling and embraces the vision for Newton Abbot and Kingsteignton Garden Community to flourish through investment in high quality infrastructure.
Local MPs Anne Marie Morris and Kevin Foster have welcomed the bid, enthusiastically supporting the proposals which would provide more sustainable, safe travel choices, reduce air pollution and congestion and improve public health by encouraging active travel.

Cross-Teignbridge support for Ukraine Day
Plans are underway across Teignbridge to mark Ukraine Day next Wednesday (24 August) and local voluntary and community groups, town councils and individuals are gearing up to celebrate the day and thank all those who are doing their bit to welcome and support our Ukrainian guests to the district.
Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Teignbridge Community and Voluntary Services and other partners across the district have worked with us to pull together vital support for Ukrainian people fleeing their country and being accommodated across the district through the Homes for Ukraine scheme, which is being co-ordinated by our Housing team.
Newton Abbot CIC is also hosting a ceremony of respect at 3.30pm on Wednesday (24 August) at St Leonard’s Tower from 3.30pm.
We will continue to fly the Ukraine flag from our council offices which was raised at the start of the invasion to show solidarity towards Ukraine.

Cheaper broadband rates for people on benefits or tax credit
If you are receiving universal credit or other forms of financial support, you may be able to get your broadband services at a much lower price on a 'social tariff'.
As the cost-of-living pressures mount, many people reliant on benefits struggle to pay for broadband services.
Given the importance of a reliable broadband connection for keeping in touch with relatives, shopping, learning and for job hunting, many of the UK’s broadband providers offer a ‘social tariff’ for the same services which is much cheaper than the provider’s normal standard monthly rate.
Broadband providers that offer a social tariff are listed on the communications services regulator Ofcom’s website where you can also get more information on the social tariff each provides.
Uswitch has recently published an article which also explains the ‘Broadband deals for low income families — how to get a social tariff on universal credit’
If you are on benefits and don't have access to broadband, you can contact Citizens Advice or the Jobcentre for help.

Surveys into cost of living energy rises
Cost-of-living making you worried about keeping warm this winter?
Like many others, Teignbridge residents are facing a cost-of-living crisis. Fuel poverty is rising and residents are facing stark choices.
So as we go into the winter months, what steps are you taking to keep your home warm but balance expenditure? How do concerns about energy use affect your decisions? A Heating Devon survey being conducted by Devon County Council aims to find out how it's affecting residents across the County.
The survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete, and all respondents will be entered into a prize draw to win shopping vouchers worth £200 and £100.
Everything you share will be treated confidentially, with key learnings shared with councils across Devon in order to understand how they can support you better.
You can also find out more about ways to insulate your home and what grants are available on the Heat Devon website.
