Funding available for residents in need

Empty purse or wallet being held open

Increasing costs are putting many household budgets under severe financial pressure with some people struggling to make ends meet.

If you are a permanent Teignbridge resident, aged over 16 and does not have sufficient resources to meet your own, or your dependents' immediate short-term needs, you can apply to the Household Support Fund for help.

Application is via an online form on our website and only takes a few minutes to complete.

The fund was set up by the Government in the Spring and together with Devon County Council we have already distributed payments to households receiving free school meals and people of state pension age in receipt of council tax support.

Urgent help is available with either prepayment meters or energy bills.  Additional support is also available from Citizens Advice.

Have you taken part in our green spaces survey?

Green spaces pop-up for users survey

Our team has been out at Dawlish Country Park with the Community Environment Warden and Devon Loves Dogs seeking views from users on what they think about Teignbridge's parks and green spaces.

People were very positive about the Park, and the many aspects of wildlife and nature it has to offer.

Please tell us what you think about our parks and open spaces by completing our Green Spaces survey.

Proposed Bradley Lane bus link

Come to our drop-in consultation day

Residents have the opportunity on Thursday to quiz council staff face to face on consultation plans to improve the reliability of bus services on the Ashburton Road by creating a bus and cycle gate between Hunterswell Road and Bradley Lane which would support more environmentally sustainable travel choices.

As part of the month-long consultation launched last week, a drop-in day is being held at Newton Abbot Leisure Centre on Thursday (14 July) where people can find out more about the plan and the benefits the proposals will bring to the town.

Presentations explaining the different ideas will be given at 11am, 1pm and 6pm and question and answer sessions will run from 10am - to 2pm and from 4pm –to 8pm.

The creation of the bus and cycle gate between Hunterswell Road and Bradley Lane would allow the 77, 88 and 88C bus services to be re-routed and bypass the often congested Dyrons roundabout, speeding up travel times into the town centre.

An online feedback questionnaire is available from our website and residents are encouraged to use it to give us their views on the proposals.

You can also respond to the consultation, which runs until 1 August, by emailing or by writing to Bradley Lane Bus Link, Spatial Planning Team, Forde House.

Stay safe in the sun

Out in the sun? Beat the heat by keeping cool, drinking lots of water and wearing sun cream to protect against high UV

As temperatures rise and the sun shines, remember to keep yourself and others safe in hot weather:

  • Drink plenty of fluids and avoid excess alcohol
  • Stay cool indoors by closing curtains on rooms that face the sun – and remember that it may be cooler outdoors than indoors
  • Never leave anyone in a closed, parked vehicle, especially infants, young children or animals
  • Walk in the shade, apply sunscreen and wear a wide-brimmed hat, if you have to go out in the heat
  • Avoid physical exertion in the hottest parts of the day
  • Make sure you take water with you if you are travelling

And if you are heading to the coast, please take care when in and around the water
