Have your say on proposed changes to Queen Street

There is just over a week left for you to comment on proposals to make Queen Street in Newton Abbot a more attractive, safe and healthy place for people to visit.

The eight-week consultation being run by Devon County Council, in partnership with Teignbridge, ends on 24 June and a dedicated business feedback questionnaire is available to capture your comments.

Currently, the pavements in Queen Street are too narrow in places for large numbers of pedestrians, and side roads can be difficult to cross.  The proposals include giving shoppers more space to move around, improved crossings as well as public seating and planting to make Queen Street a more appealing shopping destination. Under the proposals, the number of parking spaces will be reduced to enable wider pavements and to enable greening in certain locations, and a 20mph speed limit introduced between The Avenue and Courtenay Street.

The consultation pages on Devon’s website provide more details of the proposals and the business feedback questionnaire is online.

Food Standards Agency. Safe food safety now for a healthy tomorrow. Food safety is everyone's business

Food businesses urged to maintain standards

Food hygiene inspectors across the country have observed significant drops in compliance since the pandemic.

The Food Standards Agency is therefore reminding businesses of the importance of following food hygiene and safety laws so that the food is safe to eat.   It estimates that annually there are some 2.4 million cases of foodborne illness with two million people in the UK living with a food allergy.

Food safety risks can be reduced by food businesses taking action on cleaning, pest control, food safety management and addressing food substitution issues which can cause risks for people with allergies and intolerances, and other vulnerable persons.

More information for small businesses on food safety management procedures and food hygiene regulations is available on www.food.gov.uk

Changes proposed for parking permits

Devon County Council is proposing a number of changes to parking permits which will affect businesses, residents and visitors.

Changes were advertised in The Western Morning News on 1 June and people can comment on the proposals until 24 June. More information is available on Devon’s website as is a copy of the advert. A comment form is also available online.
