Following the sad news of the death of HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh, the Union flag has flown at half mast over Forde House.
The remembrance page on our website includes a link to the online national book of condolence and statements from Council Chair John Petherick and from party leaders.
A national one-minute silence will be held on Saturday at 15:00, the day of the funeral.
In line with observing the national mourning guidance, some of the activities highlighted in last week's newsletter in relation to the reopening of high streets across the District did not take place or were rescheduled.

Children's swimming lessons
Many children take great pleasure from splashing around in the water, whether it be in a bath, paddling pool, swimming pool or in the sea.
With every new stroke a child learns, they will be developing self-confidence and a sense of accomplishment. Learning to swim will also help your child or grandchild learn how to set goals and persevere until they have reached their target. Swimming is also an excellent means of showing children what they can achieve with dedication and regular practice.
Join our growing swim school and give your child or grandchild a skill for life.
Applications open for restart grants
A new system of Restart Grants has replaced the Local Restrictions Support Grants (LRSG) and the application form is now live on our website.
These one-off payment grants are available to non-essential, rate paying businesses predominantly reliant on delivering in-person services for the general public, in the non-essential retail and hospitality, leisure, personal care and accommodation sectors

Businesses that have already received grant payments that equal the maximum permitted subsidy allowances will not be eligible to receive funding. The size of grant varies according to the business rateable value.

Fire service seeking views on future risks
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service is undertaking its regular strategic review of the risks that we might face in the future and what the future landscape might look like in terms of infrastructure as well as societal trends..
As part of this process, the Fire Service wants to hear from people and partners across Devon and Somerset. Feedback will give the Service an understanding of what residents feel are local risks that need to be considered as well as perceptions of the fire and rescue service and its role. To give your views please complete the online survey which runs until 20 May.
A Community Risk Management Plan will be prepared which will run from April 2022 until 2027 and more information is available on the Fire Service's website.
