July has provided another wonderful opportunity for the Mayoress and me to visit a number of communities across West Devon, each with its own unique character, heritage and strong sense of community spirit.

As part of our ‘Shining a spotlight on West Devon's Heritage’ series, this week we're focusing on Norsworthy Bridge.
Norsworthy Bridge is a small but much-loved historic feature on Dartmoor, near Burrator Reservoir.
A single-arch stone bridge, it crosses the River Meavy and is a familiar starting point for walkers exploring the surrounding woodland, watercourses and historic landscapes.
It is recorded in the Devon and Dartmoor Historic Environment Record as a road bridge in Walkhampton, dating from the 18th to 19th century and marked on the 1840 tithe map.
Today, Norsworthy Bridge remains an important gateway into this landscape. It connects visitors with walking routes, wildlife and heritage, while offering a quiet moment to appreciate the craftsmanship and history found in even the smallest places across West Devon.

We live in a rural area, and the UK’s planned switch from traditional landlines to digital phone services is likely to affect some residents, particularly those who may find it harder to move to newer forms of communication.
These changes will affect everyone who has a landline they’d like to keep using.
By January 2027, the old analogue phone network will be completely switched off, replaced by new digital landlines which work using broadband.
Whether you are preparing for your own switch or helping a friend or family member, BT's Connected Together initiative will guide you through what to expect and how to get support.
