Following the Government’s announcement on the future shape of local government, West Devon Borough Council has reaffirmed its commitment to working together with all of the councils of Devon to ensure a smooth transition and ensure important services continue to be provided to our communities.
The Government has selected the model put forward by Plymouth and Exeter Councils, which would see the creation of four unitary councils; Plymouth, Torbay and Exeter will all have expanded boundaries, and the rest of the county will be served by a new “Devon Coast and Countryside” council. These councils are set to replace the current two-tier county and district council system.

Tavistock is celebrating the 20th anniversary of being a UNESCO World Heritage Site. To celebrate, Tavistock Town Hall will be hosting an immersive 360 degree full-dome experience ‘From Granite to Galaxies’ that traces the region’s extraordinary evolution.
The film takes you through history from the Industrial Revolution to the dawn of the Space Age.
The project is part-funded by Cornwall & West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site and will be held on Saturday 22 August from 10:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at Tavistock Town Hall and entry is free.

All West Devon residents are invited to join West Devon Borough Council’s Wildlife Warden Scheme and ParkLife (SW) to go species spotting and take part in short, guided nature walks at a Mini-BioBlitz event.
A BioBlitz is a race against the clock to identify as many species as possible. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned scientist, this is a great opportunity to get some fresh air, develop your skills, meet new people, and make a positive impact on the environment. You don’t need to be a wildlife expert to take part. All you need is enthusiasm!
This is an exciting opportunity to take part in a range of species recording activities to help ParkLife (SW) understand how rich the area is for wildlife.
We’ll be doing quadrat surveys, transect walks and using bird song apps alongside a selection of ID cards to help identify invertebrates, butterflies, birds and more!
