Shining the Spotlight on… Tavistock’s UNESCO World Heritage Status, 20 years on

bedfofrd-square

Two decades on from when Tavistock was officially added to the UNESCO World Heritage list, Tavistock continues to honour an incredible past as Devon’s only World Heritage town.

This anniversary offers a moment for reflection and pride, marking July 2006, when the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape was inscribed as a World Heritage Site in recognition of the global significance of a historic landscape shaped by innovation and industry.

Tavistock’s significance lies in its connections through the wider West Devon area which forms part of a much larger World Heritage landscape stretching across Cornwall. Encompassing ten distinct areas and thousands of hectares of mining history.

The public toilets in Yelverton have been refurbished as part of a wider project across West Devon.

We've completed our refurbishment of the public toilets by the free car park in the heart of the village. It is the first of several refurbishment projects coming to the borough, which are part of the council’s wider commitment to invest in its communities.

Between the Moors - share your views

tor-moor

Devon Wildlife Trust, North Devon Biosphere Foundation and Westcountry Rivers Trust are developing an exciting new project Between the Moors.

The project aims to ensure the unique northern Devon landscape between Dartmoor, Exmoor and Bodmin Moors is nature rich, climate resilient and supports a sustainable future for threatened wildlife, local people, and farm businesses.

Volunteering is central to the project and organisers are keen to hear your views on our local area, farming, and its connection to local communities, and what you would like to see happening for volunteers in our area.

Have your say by filling in their anonymous 10-minute surveys for volunteers and community groups before 8 June and enter the free prize draw.
