Securing the future of local leisure centres

We have awarded a contract to Parkwood Leisure to run our leisure services. This follows the announcement that Fusion Lifestyle, the current operator, has gone into administration.

Fusion Lifestyle held long-term contracts to operate the following leisure centres:

  • Meadowlands Leisure Centre (Tavistock)
  • Parklands Leisure Centre (Okehampton)

Over several years, we have repeatedly stepped in to support Fusion to keep these centres open but a few weeks ago, Fusion warned that it was likely to enter administration, or possibly liquidation if agreement could not be reached over the funding of the period of administration.

Crisis and Resilience Fund now available

People facing sudden financial difficulties can now receive help from the Government’s new Crisis and Resilience Fund, launching today.

It aims to support low-income households who experience unexpected financial shocks, such as a sudden loss of income or an essential cost they cannot afford.

The fund is also providing additional funding for households reliant on heating oil through the Crisis and Resilience Fund. This follows a significant increase in heating oil costs driven by global events.

Wildlife Warden Scheme

Come along to the West Devon Wildlife Warden Scheme and Parklife (SW)’s meadow creation events in Tavistock to help transform local green spaces in into lively wildflower meadows.

This is a wonderful opportunity for all West Devon residents to dive in, work hands-on, and gain real experience in building new habitats.

Work with us to prepare the sites and proceed with sowing wildflower seeds from local supplier, Goren Farm. The combination of perennial wildflowers and grasses will establish a biodiverse habitat which supports key pollinators, including bees and butterflies, as well as small mammals.

Celebrating the best of West Devon

winners and nominators mayoral awards

West Devon’s Mayor has praised those making outstanding contributions to their communities in the borough through this year’s West Devon Mayoral Awards.

The awards celebrate outstanding people deserving of public recognition for their unpaid work or contributions to their community in the borough. Their contributions can take different shapes and sizes, but their contributions are always profound.

Among this year's winners are Barnaby Ryder, who swam the English channel and raised over £5,000 for a men's mental health charity, and Pam Pemberton, who set up West Devon's only hedgehog sanctuary.
