Last chance to have your say on councils shake-up

pew-tor-LGR-Devon

Now is the final chance to have your say on the biggest changes to local government in a generation.

The government is holding a consultation on its plans to replace Devon's district and county councils with new unitary authorities delivering all your council services.

We need you to tell the government what services matter most to you, and what you need from a new unitary authority.

West Devon Borough Council, along with six of Devon’s other district councils, is supporting the Reimagining Devon proposal, which would see Devon split into three unitary authorities.

One would cover Exeter and northern Devon, one would cover Torbay and southern Devon and the third would cover Plymouth, either on its existing boundaries or on a slightly expanded boundary that would include four parishes currently in the South Hams.

We believe that Reimagining Devon is the most balanced solution for all of Devon, not just those living in West Devon.

✅It provides three balanced councils – each of the Councils would have a similar size population

✅It provides the highest level of financial savings

✅It sets out a clear commitment to working with communities to shape future local governance

✅ It will encourage economic growth across the county

✅ It will mean more identifiable and responsible local councillors, and strong local leadership

✅ It will improve the joining up of public sector services

The consultation is now in its last week, closing on Thursday 26 March.

You can find all the proposals at www.devonlgr.co.uk

Please take a look and give your feedback.

We're committing to our Council Plan

West Devon Borough Council is looking to build on the successes of the last 12 months as it continues to commit to its Council Plan.

The plan, which lays out our priorities and provides the organisation with an overall direction, looks to build on the great work already being done in both our core services and outside of our statutory responsibilities, in areas like climate and biodiversity, housing, community wellbeing, leisure and the economy.

Following the Government’s announcement on Monday about additional funding to help low-income families with the increased oil heating costs, Devon County Council have been allocated funding to distribute across the county.

We are currently working with Devon County Council on eligibility and how we will distribute this funding to those that need it. We hope to have further announcements within the next week.
