Battery waste sparks fire safety warning from council

WD Battery Fire

Did you know that household items containing lithium-ion batteries should be recycled separately?

When vapes, laptops, headphones, children’s toys, and mobile phones are thrown out in general waste, they can be crushed in the back of waste collection vehicles, or at waste depots, and cause fires that are extremely hard to battle – putting the lives of everyone involved at risk.

This week, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, and our Lead Member for Waste and Recycling, Cllr Jeff Moody, paid a visit to our Hayedown waste depot to see first-hand the issues these batteries can pose.
