Last year, we published our proposals for reshaping and reimagining the future of local services in Devon - and soon, the government will be asking what you think of these plans.
Reimagining Devon: Believe in Better has been published by seven of Devon’s district councils, outlining a new model for local government to secure a brighter and more prosperous future for the county and its communities.
We did this after the government announced it is changing council structures across the country – including here in Devon - and invited Devon's councils to put forward their proposals on reorganising local government.
Reimagining Devon, also known as the 4-5-1 model, suggests Devon should be split into three unitary council areas:
4️⃣ Torbay and Southern Devon - a unitary authority for South Hams, Teignbridge, Torbay and West Devon
5️⃣ Exeter and Northern Devon - a unitary authority for East Devon, Exeter, Mid Devon, North Devon and Torridge
1️⃣ Plymouth City Council remaining a standalone unitary authority
We're expecting the Government to launch a public consultation, asking for your opinions on Reimagining Devon and the other reorganisation proposals, in February.

We are working in partnership with Business Information Point to deliver an in-depth study of the visitor economy across the borough.
The aim is simple but powerful: to understand what’s really happening on the ground, identify the biggest barriers facing tourism businesses, and ensure future investment and support genuinely meets local needs.

We’re on the lookout for Devon’s unsung heroes making valuable contributions to their communities in the 2026 West Devon Mayoral Awards.
Nominations are now open for the awards, which celebrate outstanding people deserving of public recognition for their unpaid work or contributions to their community in the borough. We want to hear from you about the individuals, groups and organisations making a difference where you live.
There are four categories in this year’s awards:
- The West Devon Mayoral Award for Under 18s
This award celebrates a noteworthy achievement of a person under the age of 18 living in West Devon.
- The West Devon Mayoral Award for Over 18s / organisation
The award for an adult or organisation in West Devon who have done something noteworthy or enhanced the borough’s reputation nationally.
This award recognises the work of individuals or groups who have made a significant contribution to conservation and protection of the West Devon natural environment.
- The Mayor’s Award for Long Service
The nominee should be a person (or people) who deserves to be recognised for their long service. It could be someone who’s been involved in a community group, volunteered locally or worked alone to improve the lives of people in West Devon.
The winners will receive their awards at a ceremony on 24 March at the Council’s offices at Kilworthy Park, in Tavistock.
If you know someone who you think is deserving of an award, you can complete a nomination form online, giving us details of why you have nominated them.
Nominations close on Friday 20 February.

We're pleased to announce that BIP will be running the West Devon Employment Fair again this year, helping match local job seekers and employers.
The West Devon Employment Fair will take place on 5 February from noon to 3 p.m. at the Charter Hall, Okehampton.
Fully-funded by West Devon Borough Council, there is no cost to exhibit at the event, and it is an ideal opportunity to showcase local businesses and connect them with local job seekers.
As this is a funded event, there’s no cost for taking a stand (though spaces are limited).
It provides the perfect place for businesses to network with each other local businesses. Plus for local job seekers - whether you're leaving education, currently unemployed, or already in employment - these employment fairs are the perfect opportunity to find new jobs.
You can find more info about the events on the BIP website.
