Investing in warmer, healthier homes

barry

We are continuing our work to improve housing conditions and support residents’ health and wellbeing. Following the success of the Home Upgrade Grant, which helped 46 households enjoy warmer, more energy-efficient homes, we have now launched a new £1.6 million Warmer Homes: Local Grant.

The scheme will support up to 80 more households over the next three years, helping those on low incomes living in cold or damp homes.

Eligible residents will be invited to apply from early 2026.

Hear from Barry about how the scheme changed his home.

Working together for climate action

We were proud to support the Energy Assembly at Kingsbridge Community College on 18 October, an event organised by Sustainable South Hams. This was powerful community-led event focused on tackling climate change and building energy resilience.

By working with local groups and residents, we’re helping drive change across South Hams, from home energy improvements to community energy projects.

Watch our video to see how we’re supporting climate action in partnership with our communities.

Funding for solar installation at Dart Marine Park

SOLAR

Totnes Renewable Energy Society (TRESOC) has been awarded a £50,000 grant from the Community Energy Fund to develop 100kW of community-owned roof-mounted solar PV at Dart Marine Park, Steamers Quay. This marks its first new community solar installation since the end of the feed-in tariff scheme.

The project, developed in partnership with South Hams District Council (SHDC) who owns the site, will enable local residents to invest directly in renewable energy through a community share offer planned for Spring 2026.

Shareholders will receive interest payments, ensuring profits support the local economy while delivering affordable clean energy to the area.

NHS Devon is urging residents at risk of becoming seriously unwell from flu to get vaccinated as cases begin to rise.

If you have a long-term health condition—such as COPD, diabetes, chronic kidney or liver disease, a BMI over 40, or take asthma medication—you may be eligible for a free flu vaccine.

Flu can worsen existing conditions and lead to serious complications.

Vaccination is the best defence and could save lives.

How to get vaccinated:

  • Book via your GP, pharmacy, or the NHS App
  • Walk-in clinics and pop-up outreach sessions are also available

Not sure if you're eligible? Visit the NHS website.
