Junior Life Skills event a big hit

WD

We are celebrating the success of this year’s Junior Life Skills events, which brought together Year 6 pupils from across the borough to learn vital safety skills in a fun and interactive way.

The initiative, which forms part of our wider commitment to health and wellbeing, gave children hands-on experience in areas such as first aid, fire safety, online and telephone safety, lifesaving techniques, and even how to stay safe while exploring Dartmoor.

Delivered in partnership with organisations including Devon and Cornwall Police, Dartmoor National Park Authority, RNLI, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, and many others, the sessions were designed to equip young people with practical knowledge they can use in everyday life.

Education event targets fly-tipping

fly tip

Residents in West Devon are being urged not to be fooled by fly-tippers and use legitimate companies to get rid of their rubbish.

Several areas across West Devon are hot spots for fly-tipping and as part of an education event, West Devon Borough Council, Devon & Cornwall Police, Clean Devon and the Environment Agency will be setting up a staged flytip at Anderton Lay-by on the A386 Tavistock, PL19 9FT on Tuesday 14 October from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The controlled fly-tip at Anderton Layby is made up of bulky goods which you often see fly-tipped, like white goods and furniture and will only remain in place for a few hours, under supervision, before being removed. But it is hoped the sight of this 'fake flytip' will create interest and debate about the importance of managing waste properly.
