We're supporting Tavistock Pride

Pride 2025

We are delighted to be supporting Tavistock Pride this weekend - a celebration of diversity, inclusivity, and community spirit.

This vibrant festival, taking place in The Meadows on Saturday 5 July, promises a day filled with colour, music and joy, bringing together people from all walks of life to celebrate our diverse communities.

Join us to celebrate Tavistock Pride and show your support for inclusivity in West Devon. Together, we can create a community where everyone is free to be themselves.

Chewing gum grant

A grant from the Chewing Gum Task Force, administered by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, will help us clean up gum and reduce gum littering.

Along with South Hams District Council, we are putting plans in place to remove chewing gum that blights local streets after we received a £23,590 grant to tackle the issue.

Beware of parking fine text scam

We've been made aware that some residents are receiving scam text messages about supposed outstanding parking fines.

  • These messages may look official, but they are not from the council

  • The web addresses in the texts are fake

  • The payment amounts are often incorrect or suspicious

Do not click on any links or provide any personal or payment details.

If you're unsure whether a message is genuine, please contact us -  www.westdevon.gov.uk/parking

Please share this to help protect others.

Be Waste Aware

Please make sure that you check the credentials of any waste collectors you use so you don’t end up being fined.

We have recently issued two Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) in relation to a fly tip at a neighbouring car park after an individual failed to check the unlicensed waste carrier they used had the appropriate licence.

Our community's cleanliness and safety depends on all of us to take responsibility for how we dispose of our waste. Hiring a licensed waste carrier is a simple but vital step in preventing illegal dumping and ensuring that rubbish is handled properly.

We urge all residents to be vigilant and verify the credentials of any waste carrier they employ. By doing so, we can collectively keep our communities clean and safe. If you see any fly tipping, please report it to the local authority immediately.

Find out more about waste management on the UK Government website here.

Thank you for your cooperation.

From Monday 14 July 2025, essential water mains work will be taking place in Abbey Car Park in Tavistock for up to two weeks.

  • Some parking spaces will be temporarily closed
  • The contractor will work to finish early if possible
  • Spaces may reopen in phases during the works

We’re working closely with the contractor to minimise disruption and thank you for your patience.
