New PSPO launched in Tavistock

tavi

This week we met with local police, Tavistock Bid and the Mayor of Tavistock to officially launch the new PSPO (Public Space Protection Order) in Tavistock.

The order has been introduced in both Okehampton and Tavistock in order to tackle alcohol related incidents of anti-social behaviour and it gives police and authorised officers the ability to disperse individuals who are causing a nuisance or disorder along with the power to remove alcohol from people if necessary.

Anyone found in breach of the restrictions can be asked to leave and not return to the area for up to 24 hours or officers may also issue a fixed penalty notice where appropriate.

Community Skip and Tidy Day

skip day

Despite the heavy rain and a few soggy coats, spirits weren’t dampened at our first Skip and Tidy Day in Tavistock's Torlands and Greenlands Estate on Thursday!

Organised by partners LiveWest, we worked alongside partners and residents for a great community clean-up. We were joined and supported by our Leader Cllr Ewings and Cllr Jeff Moody, along with staff from our Environmental Health, Localities, and Community Development teams.

Although the weather made it tricky for some residents to reach the skips, the team went door-to-door helping people move bulky items. One resident was grateful when we helped remove an old washing machine she’d been unable to dispose of – finally giving her that much-needed space back.

Two free skips and an FCC waste vehicle were on hand to collect unwanted items from gardens and pathways. Together, we gave the estate a much-needed refresh.

Events like this are more than just a tidy-up, they spruce up neighbourhoods, improve community spirit, and create safer, more welcoming places to live.

As well as lending a hand with the clearing, officers also spoke with residents about local support services, including cost-of-living help and home heating advice.
