Totnes Catbikes scheme launching this month

catbikesytthumb

Totnes’ new e-bike scheme is all set to go live on 20 June.

The new Catbikes are being introduced as part of our commitment to promote cycling, contributing to our ambitions of tackling climate change and supporting our communities.

The bikes will provide people visiting and living in Totnes the chance to travel around the town and surrounding areas in a greener, more sustainable way.

The e-bikes will be available to hire from 8 'bases' around the town:

  • Shady Gardens
  • Rotherfold Square
  • Steamer Quay
  • Weston Lane, Bridgetown
  • Totnes Leisure Centre
  • Follaton House
  • Totnes Railway Station

There are bike racks at all 8 sites, and the e-bikes will be delivered to each base and tested ahead of the launch.

Anyone wanting to hire a Catbike will need to download the Appbike app and register for the scheme on their smartphone before going for a ride; the app is available to download from both the App Store on iPhone and the Google Play Store on Android phones.

Visit our website to find out more, and click the video thumbnail above to watch our video on the scheme.

Making our leisure centres more sustainable

solar panels

The leisure centres in Ivybridge, Dartmouth and Totnes will take a bold step forward, as we have committed to fitting the facilities with solar panels.

Plans are moving forward to install panels at each of the three centres, drastically reducing their energy bills, helping to make each of the centres more financially sustainable.

The panels will also have a huge impact on the environment, saving around 90 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year. The yearly CO₂ emissions savings from the investment is the equivalent of flying from London to New York more than 50 times.
