Making waves at GO Electric

go electric

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the GO Electric Show in Kingsbridge last weekend.

It was fantastic to see so much interest in the future of electric transport — from EVs and e-bikes to marine innovation.

We were proud to be there alongside Wills Marine, showcasing how electric propulsion is transforming life on (and by) the water.

Great conversations, insightful questions, and plenty of enthusiasm for a cleaner, greener South Hams. Let’s keep the momentum going!

Ivybridge toilets now more accessible

youtube

We’re excited to announce that the newly refurbished public toilets at Glanville Mill in Ivybridge now feature the innovative RoomMate, an audio guidance system—enhancing accessibility for blind and visually impaired users.

The RoomMate is a wall-mounted device that provides a detailed, spoken description of the toilet layout when activated by a simple wave of the hand. This allows users to navigate the space independently and with confidence, without needing assistance or relying on touch-based signage like Braille.

This upgrade is part of continued work to improve community facilities throughout the district.

Does your electricity meter need replacing?

ofgem

The Radio Teleswitch Service (RTS) — a system used to control some older electricity meters — is being switched off in June 2025.

If you have an RTS electricity meter in your home, this change could affect you.

What is RTS?

RTS uses a radio signal to tell certain meters when to switch between peak and off-peak electricity rates. This system has been in use for many years, but the equipment is now reaching the end of its operational life and will be shut down this summer.

Why does it matter?

If your RTS meter is not replaced before the switch-off, your heating and hot water may stop working properly — especially if you rely on electric heating.

What should you do?

  • Your energy supplier will contact you if you have an RTS meter.

  • When they do, make sure to book an appointment to have your meter replaced.

  • The new meter will continue to support off-peak rates and is part of a broader move toward smarter energy systems.

Please pass this message on to anyone you know who might be affected — particularly elderly neighbours or those without internet access.

Stay safe when parking

parking

After using fake QR codes or downloading from unofficial websites, there have been a few instances where residents have fallen victim to fraudulent PayByPhone accounts.

If you are using car parks across the South Hams, please remember to download the PayByPhone app from PayByPhone directly or through the official app stores only as below:

Please note that we do not operate any QR codes in our car parks, and we make daily checks of our machines and car park signs to look out for fake QR stickers.
