New e-bike scheme coming to Totnes

Cllr Birch and Abbott with Catbikes

A new fleet of hireable electric bikes will be available on the streets of Totnes in June.

The new 'Catbikes' are being introduced as part of our commitment to promoting cycling. E-bikes will be available from several key places across the town and accessed by a mobile app 24/7.

We’ll be providing further information on the Catbikes – which stands for 'Cycles Around Town' - closer to the scheme’s launch.

We're showing off the bikes at Transition Town Totnes’ Energy Wise and Eco-Homes Show at Totnes Civic Hall this weekend, on Sunday 11 May, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Active Devon will be at the show with us, offering the chance to try out the Catbikes for free. You can book a session in advance by clicking here.

A person sitting on a couch, looking at a smartphone with concern, holding a credit card against their forehead.

We are aware there have been incidents recently in our area of a scammer stating they work for our Licensing team asking for payment of overdue or expired licence fees.

Please DO NOT make any payments, we would NEVER ask you to pay over the phone, if in doubt please contact us online or via our switchboard

to check.

Please report any incidents to us and also to Action Fraud

Beware of PayByPhone QR code scam

We have recently discovered fake QR codes stuck on our Pay and Display machines in Mayors Avenue Car Park.

The QR code takes you to a scam website.

There have been a few instances where residents have fallen victim to fraudulent PayByPhone accounts.

If you are using car parks across the South Hams, please remember to download the PayByPhone app from PayByPhone directly or through the official app stores only as below:

Please note that we do not operate any QR codes in our car parks, and we make daily checks of our machines and car park signs to look out for fake QR stickers.

High fire risk on Dartmoor this weekend

Last weekend a significant wildfire broke out on central Dartmoor. Thanks to the hard work of teams on the ground it has now been extinguished. However, significant damage has been done and there is concern for wildlife in the effected area.

This weekend shows an increased risk of fire for Dartmoor so please take extra care.

  • BBQ at home, not the countryside
  • Take all your litter home, including cigarette butts
  • Don't light open fires
  • If you see a wildfire, call 999 immediately

Ahead of another sunny and dry weekend, people are reminded of the leave-no-trace principles which play a key role in fire prevention
