A joint plan outlining how local councils could be reorganised in Devon has been submitted today. As requested by Government, a joint proposal, known as the 1-4-5 plan, has been sent to the Minister of State for Local Government and English Devolution on behalf of all the Devon District Councils, except Exeter.
It proposes:
- Retaining Plymouth unitary authority.
- A unitary combining the South Hams, Teignbridge and West Devon areas with Torbay.
- A unitary including East, Mid, North Devon, Torridge and Exeter.

Trains between Okehampton, Barnstaple and Exeter are running again after Network Rail successfully completed engineering work to protect and enhance the railway in Devon.
On the edge of Okehampton, the first major stage of work took place to build the new Okehampton Interchange station. 300 metres of the single-line track was moved 90cm north to allow a new platform to be built alongside it. The previous track layout didn’t allow for a platform to be built that meets regulations for new stations.

To support this year's Great British Spring Clean (GBSC) campaign, we continue to work with a number of groups across the Borough to support them in both their regular litter picks and specific events.
This involves us helping them dispose of their waste and supporting with equipment, guidance and specialist waste disposal.
The GBSC takes place from today, Friday 21 March to Sunday 6 April. As well as the great work of regular litter picking groups across the area, there will be individuals and groups carrying out their own litter picks.
The recently purchased chewing gum cleaning equipment continues to be used by our team to support the cleaning of the Borough's streets.
Get involved with keeping your local area clean and tidy. For details of groups local to you, visit Clean Devon.
