Watch our video on work beginning on Okehampton Interchange, a new railway station on the edge of the town.

The £15 million station is the newest addition to the Dartmoor Line and will connect West Devon, Torridge and North Cornwall with Exeter and beyond.

The partners in the project - Devon County Council, West Devon Borough Council, GWR and Network Rail – gathered to mark the occasion with a turf cutting ceremony on the site of the new station at Okehampton Business Park.

Doing all we can to ease housing pressures

We are doing all we can to ease housing pressures, with many important and exciting projects underway.

At our Hub Committee on Tuesday, councillors agreed our annual housing action plan and took the opportunity to reflect on the work being done to address the Borough’s housing crisis and increased demand for temporary accommodation.

We are tackling rising antisocial behaviour

We have agreed to a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) that is designed to prevent problems from excessive drinking in public spaces in local towns.

Residents and visitors wishing to enjoy alcohol sensibly, for example as part of a picnic or celebrating with friends in the park without causing any issues, will not be affected.

An alcohol Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) consultation, in partnership with Devon and Cornwall Police was held during July and August last year. It received 87 responses in response to questions about alcohol related anti-social behaviour in Tavistock and Okehampton.

A PSPO relates to alcohol linked antisocial behaviour and will apply to Okehampton and Tavistock. It is an extra tool that gives the Police, or a council authorised officer, powers to help reduce specific antisocial behaviours.

Tavistock to vote on proposed neighbourhood plan

A referendum on the potential Tavistock Neighbourhood Plan is set to take place in the coming months.

A neighbourhood plan plays an important role in shaping the decisions made by the Borough Council's planning committee in the years ahead. They become a part of the statutory development plan, and its policies carry weight when decisions are made on planning applications.

Communities considering a neighbourhood plan have their chance to say whether they think such a plan should be adopted – West Devon Borough Council’s Hub Committee agreed to the referendum so that local people can decide on whether the town should agree to the plan.
