We are investing in more council homes

download

We are investing in more council homes for rent as part of our drive to tackle the affordable housing crisis.

Our Executive Committee has agreed to purchase the three remaining properties at Holywell Meadow in St Ann’s Chapel, Bigbury. Originally planned for the open market, the three 3-bedroom homes will now be available for rent, supporting our drive to help local people who have a housing need.

We have ringfenced £300,000 of second home council tax income to help fund projects such as these. This money will be used to address housing challenges across the South Hams and support local people who suffer the most from second homes.

Shaping the future of Ivybridge market

market

The Ivybridge community can now have their say on the future of its local market, as part of our work to help the local economy thrive and prosper.

Last year, over 700 Ivybridge residents and business owners shared their views on what they want and need for their town when they took part in our public consultation.

The feedback from local people has helped shape a Community Economic Plan (CEP) for Ivybridge, setting out clear actions to help boost the economy, with one being to improve the local market.

Residents, market stallholders and visitors to Ivybridge can now have their say on what they want from the market by taking part in an online survey, or by popping along to chat to the Council at Glanville Mill Car Park on Friday 14 March and Saturday 15 March between 9.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m.

Calling all dads and male carers

dads

Our partners Safer Devon and South Devon and Dartmoor Community Safety Partnership have launched a new series of free Let's Talk online sessions aimed at dads and male carers.

We all know parenting can be difficult at times, and dads and male carers can often find it even harder to support their children as advice and help is frequently tailored towards mothers and female carers.

The short online sessions running this March provide tips and techniques covering key safeguarding issues to help support young people to navigate some of the challenges they face and to allow men to feel more confident in their parenting.

Each session is FREE and will last around 20 minutes covering a range of topics including:

So if you’re a dad, grandad, uncle, carer or male role model to a young person and want to help support them and keep them safe, book your Let’s Talk Dad’s session today

While these sessions are aimed at dad’s and male carers of course mums are welcome too!
